We chose NCL because we were traveling with two two year olds, and NCL is one of two cruise lines that accept two year olds in their kids program.
This is our fifth cruise, and our first with NCL. Before kids we chose Celebrity based on its stellar reviews, and Princess because it has a lot of cruises sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale.
Quality food is important to us. On the positive side, there are a lot of choices on the Sun. The salad bar at the buffet was very fresh, but overall the buffet was small and lacking in variety. A problem for us was that food was scattered in too many places buffet on one side, waffles on the other side, omelettes upstairs, and with two two year olds to look after we just couldnt all get what we wanted. On the negative side the food in the dining room was awful. We ate there for three dinners and one lunch, and only on the formal night was there anything that I liked. The cooking light entrees were dry and tasteless. I gave up on the dining room and preferred eating sandwiches and cookies in the afternoon, then having tapas at Las Ramblas instead of dinner. As for the specialty restaurants, we ate at the Italian and French restaurants. Both were very good but the menus are very limited. The bread and pasta on the ship were fantastic. Aside from the cookies and ice cream, the desserts were weird-looking and average.
