Ship Facts: Splendour of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Splendour of the Seas Deck Plans
Splendour of the Seas - Western Caribbean
Background information: 34th cruise, mid-40s married couple with two college-age daughters along. Live near Galveston.

Travel information: Since we were already at the Galvez Hotel in Galveston for a friends wedding, we booked the Cruise-package there and utilized their free parking and transfers. Excellent idea, I highly recommend this!

Embarkation: Platinum members, so checking in took about 3 minutes!

Stateroom: Since this was a short cruise, we never opt for a higher category cabin. Our cabin was small but functioned perfectly. Excellent menu of TV stations. A/C was great, bed was hard.

Ship Info: The ship was fine. Does show some age, but that was to be expected. Easy layout, very similar to other RCCL ships we have been on.

Dining: Second seating table 002. We were not impressed with the food. It was ok, just never had a meal that made us go WOW! Ate pizza, burgers and dogs during the day they were pretty typical cruise food.

Activities: These were standard just like every other cruise weve been on. Casino got lots of donations!

Service: Cabin steward was sufficient. Didnt see him often, but for the most part he did a good job. Had to track down beach towels for shore excursion, but other than that, he did an OK job. Dining room waitress was awkward and asst. waiter was inept. Had to track down Asst. Head Waiter for help! Filling water glasses isnt rocket science! Room service was 30 minutes late on 2 of the 5 days we left out Breakfast menus? Pool bar waiters were plentiful and bartenders were friendly. Wait staff in Windjammer were very helpful.

Shore excursion: Catch the Wave Snorkel Safari in Cozumel: this is not a luxury vessel as advertised. There are no hot/cold showers. There wasnt enough snorkel equipment for everyone. There is no towel service. There is no A/C. The bar and buffet were nice. Reefs are slow to recover from Hurricane Wilma. Uvero Beach Break in Costa Maya: great excursion. Nice beach, air-conditioned bus ride. Just as promised.

Disembarkation: Disembarked ship 20 minutes ahead of the schedule, but stood in a long customs line in the terminal. Took another hour to get out of that!

Summary: This was a relaxing vacation. Our group of friends had many fun moments. We enjoyed the 12 hole miniature golf and utilized the spa several times. Realizing that being on a cruise beats being at work any day&.there really wasnt anything about this cruise that exceeded our expectations. It was fun and relaxing, but nothing spectacular!
