Overall, I would have to give the NCL Spirit a thumbs up. There were a few problems, however. The buffet had cafeteria-style food, it reminded me of high school lunches. Its traffic pattern was poorly planned and got really congested at meal times. Also, they only offered water, coffee and iced tea to drink at meal times. We would have really liked to see some kind of lemonade or juice.

The pay restaurants were fantastic in food quality and service, but you had to pay a surcharge to eat in them. Also, every time we wanted to get a snack, it seemed like the buffet was closed and the 24 hour restaurant offered a severely limited menu and was right in the middle of a major passageway. The waitstaff in the 24 hour restaurant was indifferent at best. So, we liked freestyle dining for the freedom it offered, but also feel that the buffet venue suffered in quality.

Also, there were no child-free venues on the ship. If you go to a smoky bar at midnight, you'll invariably find a toddler there screaming because it's overtired and cranky with indifferent parents ignoring the noise. That was true of almost every space on the ship. Even the casino had toddlers running around in it. One of our excursions was ruined by two screaming children whose parents did nothing to quiet them, allowing them to totally drown out the tour guide. We also found infants (diaper age) swimming in the pool which pretty much stopped our swimming in it. There was a children's pool in the back of the ship, but some insisted on bringing the children into the adult pool.
