The Spirit is a beautiful ship with many desirable features. The atrium is the most beautiful that I have seen on any ship. The pool was a nice size for the ship. Four sizable hot tubs in the pool area seemed to accommodate everyone who wanted to use them. The Galaxy of the Stars Lounge was very nice. You could sit in the front of the ship and relax any time of the day. This lounge has a spiral stairway that goes down to an observation window overlooking the bridge. This was a great touch.

The cabins are a decent size but lack storage. Beds, lower for the Asian market, will not accommodate luggage underneath. A chair or very small loveseat in the room was so low that it was uncomfortable for an average sized adult. Cabin staff was top-notch. They worked hard to please. The bathroom has the NCL 3-part system that gives you a nice sized shower that you wont find on all ships. The room safe was on the floor of the closet. That was a big problem for cruisers, especially the older ones. Some people said that they were unable to use them at all. The entertainment was good. For a small stage, the production company (not Jean Ann Ryan) was able to put on a great show. The theater has an unusual layout that brings people in at the front. People who choose to leave during the show walk out in full view of audience and performers. Some of the comedy shows used this as part of their act.

The biggest detraction on this ship was the food. This was my fifth NCL cruise and though NCL food and menus do not equal RCL or Celebrity, they have been quite acceptable. That was not the case on the Spirit. The menus each day was strange and disappointing. Some days, it was hard to find anything to eat. This was the most common complaint heard on the ship. The Raffles buffet was not much better. The selection there was poor as well. The carving station had roast chicken almost every day at it was dry. This was the first cruise that I have been on (9 total) that did not have Baked Alaska. Wait staff was cold but efficient. I dont need to have small talk with staff but it does make them seem more interested in what you feel. I loved the itinerary of this cruise. The ports were great, weather was great, smooth sailing on the whole cruise and I love sailing out of New York. If I had one objection on the itinerary, it would be arriving in Tortola at 6 AM and departing at 1 PM. You did not have time to do much in that port.
