I coordinated a group of 28 friends who cruise together every three years...this was our 5th adventure, the 1st NCL then switched to RCL for the next 3 before choosing the NCL Hawaii itinerary.

The ports and time there were fantastic as were all on shore excursions. The downside, and we expected it, was definitely the service on the ship. We had one cabin with no AC for two days, one missing the mini sofa for three days, one cabin that was never vacuumed on the day of embarkation (they said the vacuum broke). Most of us never knew who our room steward was although most did do a good job.

Food in the Palace Dining Room on the first night was awful, cold and uncooked rice etc. We chose to switch to the Crossings Dining Room the next night and by luck met a great young waiter, Christopher, and reserved his tables every night for the whole group. Those on board who chose to take advantage of NCL's freestyle cruising for meals usually found themselves waiting to be seated even though many tables were empty. I strongly suggest making a dinner reservation with the Maitre D to avoid this. Food the rest of the trip was fairly good but I would only classify two of the dinners as memorable. No late night buffets and the Chocolate buffet was scheduled from 3-4pm while in port when most folks were off the ship. One of our cabins required ice at 7am each day for medical reasons and was never able to get any on time, often waiting more than 2 hours. When it was mentioned to Christopher, in passing, he brought over the F&B Director who was very apologetic and ensured there would be ice at 7am the next day...NOT!
