This was our very first cruise, and we couldnt have chosen a more beautiful ship! The Prinsendam is a beautiful physical specimen of old-world classic styling providing a truly elegant ambiance. Her size also provides a more intimate experience, and as first-time cruisers we felt welcomed by the smaller ship instead of overwhelmed and consumed by the glam and glitz of one of the larger floating cities. The Prinsendam is also the only ship in the Holland line that offers a Superior Verandah Class and it was WELL worth the additional $ for the extra space and extra amenities. Our cabin was 346 sf. and felt like home instead of a hotel room, particularly welcome on a longer cruises. The standard Verandah cabins are much smaller and verge on being too cramped. A word on demographics, since the median age on board was 79, if youre looking for night-life this isnt the ship for you. That said, I am 48 and my husband is 54, and we didnt find the average age had any negative affect whatsoever on our experiences. We never had to wait in line for anything, our shore excursion groups were VERY small, and the pool was all ours! It was as though we were on our own private yacht. Additionally, since the younger crowd was smaller we found ourselves with a greater opportunity to make real friendships vs. casual acquaintances. If quiet, relaxed, and intimate is what you are in search of, take a serious look at this ship and dont be put off by the average age unless you plan on traveling with children or teenagers or you want to party until the wee hours with a crowd.

Service was only *** for me. Ive stayed in too many great land hotels not to have a critical eye in this sector. Our cabin steward and table waiter were great, but given the sleepy ship, service should have been top-notch in all sectors all of the time.

The Pinnacle Grill was ***½, but the food was a definite step above main dining and worth the experience. The beef really is superb. The spa was INCREDIBLE but so were the fees. Read the menu thoroughly before booking and decide if you really want to spend that much on that hot stone massage you can get at home for ½ the price.
