Thanksgiving Cruise November 20-27, 2005

My husband and I (late 50s) sailed in a balcony stateroom. We were pleased with its size--especially the bathroom.

We were scheduled to visit Key West, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. Because of high winds we were unable to dock at Key West, so that day was spent at sea. That was fine with us -- we like the leisurely pace of days at sea. But the kids on board (and there were many kids and teens because of the holiday) became restless and a few were loud, pushy and unruly, which was a shame for those of us who came to relax. When we arrived at Grand Cayman, high seas around the cruise ship pier forced us to anchor at Spotts Beach, a VERY undeveloped area of the island. There were three other cruise ships anchored there as well (two big Carnivals and an NCL), and all passengers from all ships were tendered in to a very small pier. It was a madhouse -- too many people for too small a docking facility, and not enough cabs to get everyone into Georgetown expeditiously. Then, many people had to wait hours for a tender back to their ships. As to the island itself, we enjoyed Grand Cayman although many excursions were cancelled due to the rough seas. The damage from Hurricane Ivan in September 2004 is almost completely repaired. We arrived at Cozumel just 22 days after Hurricane Wilma, and the damage was dramatic. However, at least 50% of the shops were open.
