Carnival Liberty - Western Caribbean

Sail Date: October 2005
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Rome (Civitavecchia)

We arrived in Rome a day early, which I would suggest to anyone booking their own flights. We saved about $800 by booking our own air. Transfers to the airport are available through Carnival and Private Companies for about $60-100 per person. If you travel light you can take the train to the port, they leave every hour from Terminal Station, we paid 8 Eros for the trip. Arriving at the port city, it was about 1/4 mile to the free shuttle bus to the ship. Just leave the train station and walk north until you see the port entrance, the bus is just inside of the entrance.

Embarkation was super easy and quick, perfect. The ship is very large and the inside cabins are very acceptable, our only complaint was that the floor plan is a little confusing, but who cares, you are on vacation.

The entertainment was very good, just remember that it is "entertainment," so don't take it too seriously

The Food.....Many of our fellow cruisers complained that the food was More not very good. However, we found the food in both the main dining room and elsewhere to be delicious. Lobster tail will likely only be served once in the main dinning room, do yourselves a favor and orders a few. Also the Carnival coffee is the best we've have had.

Service was very good throughout the cruise, with the exception of the Lido Bar Staff, one of the younger members was very rude to us and others. The only warning I have is that Carnival has a tendency to "nickle and dime" you to death. If you don't want to spend money above and beyond what you paid for the cruise, you probably should not bother.

Shore Excursions: We only took two excursions, Island of Capri and Florence and Pisa. Both were great, food was fantastic. However, private tours are said to be a better value.

We did every other port on our own and were very pleased that we did. Often times we did the same things that the ship tours did but paid only pennies. Do a little research and you will be able to have a great time for much less money.

Overall the Cruise was fantastic. Great food, great ports, great ship, great service, great coffee, great crew, great vacation. Less
