This cruise was the second one for us, our last being a 3 day weekend cruise to Ensenada on Carnival Ecstasy in 2003.

We were familiar with the terminal (Long Beach) since we'd used it before and knew about the massive confusion. We luckily were owed a favor by a guy with a limousine so we got to ride in class to the port and did not have to park or pay parking charges. You have to be very observant as to what is going on if you arrive midmorning or so, as there are scads of people getting off the previous cruise as well as just as many more arriving. It is a bit hectic making sure to find a luggage handler that is checking baggage in. The safest thing is to look for the line heading toward the middle of the drop off area, as this leads to the most organized group of baggage check in personnel, and you could see them like ants in a line going from THAT site towards the terminal and back....whereas some personnel were trying to pick up luggage in a haphazard way near the entrance to the parking garage and elsewhere, and it seems to me if you deal with them there is more chance of your bags getting mixed up with those of the previous cruise as lots of people from the previous cruise, with their bags, were in THAT part of the parking garage. We were happily surprised that, as Category 11 cabin folks, we were automatically given "Skipper's Club" privileges. This allowed us NOT to have to wait in the long lines....We got on right away, about an HOUR before published embarkation. This privilege is NOT extended for debarkation however:(.

Our cabin was absolutely to die for. We were not sure what to expect, because we "thought" there was a bigger balcony based on the deck plans, but we didn't know for sure...and neither did our travel agent. This cabin (6329) is one of the aft wraparound cabins and the balcony is WONDERFUL. The room itself was really nice because the entryway, the sitting area, the bathroom, a "powder room", I guess, and the bedroom were all separated...making it more private. The bed was extremely comfortable and everything was kept clean. Our cabin steward seemed to have this ESP about what we were doing...every time we turned around, there were fresh towels. My husband asked for extra pillows and ended up with 4 all to himself. The balcony is so private that you could stand out there in nothing but a robe in the middle of the night and just watch the wake....As long as you didn't stand right NEXT to the edge of the balcony, you could wear less than that...unless you had snoopy neighbors peer around the dividers, I guess :). We saw neighbors above and below us (just their heads), but never noticed our next door neighbors at all.
