Carnival Legend - Eastern Caribbean

Sail Date: September 2005
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

Just returned from the cruise and am happy to say we had a wonderful time! A few notes...this was a full charter through an online agency for the Apprentice Legend Cruise. A great deal, however, we experienced some pains with this agency. First off, incorrect name spellings that took numerous telephone calls to correct. The communication between the agency and Carnival is non-existent. If you called one for a request, they would say call the other. When you called the other, they would say you need to speak with the other. Very frustrating when you are trying to make sure you have a crib in your cabin for your 8 month old.

We were a group of eight (five adults, one 3 year old, one 14 month old, one 8 month old) in three cabins, two balconies, one inside. We requested that the three cabins be near each other - we were only able to get two of them near each other.

On the plus side, food was much better than we anticipated. We have cruised over 20 More times between the three cabins and all agreed that the food on this cruise was better than any other.

Our biggest issue...the family facilities are practically non-existent. They should be ashamed of calling their kids pool a kids pool. It is a round pool, about the size of any blow-up you might purchase, on the top of the ship. No shade and no elevator to get up there.

Additionally, we found Camp Carnival to be below expectations. The facility was ok, but we found the counselors to be un-interested and down night "not excited" about seeing the children. Our three year old - who is extremely social and loves to meet people and perform structured activities had no interest in going to Camp.

If there is an outside part for Camp Carnival, no one ever showed it to us.

We have cruised with a two year old on NCL and found it to be much more family oriented.

All in all...we will definitely cruise out of NY again - being from NJ, you cannot beat the convenience. However, we will more than likely go back to NCL.
