Sail Date: Sep 2005

We set sail on the Caribbean Princess, September 3, 2005 from Port Everglades. Since this was my first cruise and my boyfriend's fifth, I wanted to express my experience on the Caribbean Princess. After seven days aboard I would hesitate to recommend this cruise line.

First of all, the Personal choice seating is not a personal choice. It is basically first available. If I wanted to dine at 7 PM at one of the two dining room it was all up to availability. So it was not my personal choice but what is available. The two dining rooms were not impressive. The first dining room we experienced was the Palm. The waiter had a difficult time understanding basic English and the food was like any food you would be served in a cafeteria setting. The second night we tried the Coral dining room. The food was basically worse than the Palm. We were sat at a table of six. We arrived after the other passengers were seated. We were never given menus, my boyfriend had to get up and get menus for us. The meals we were served were below any expectations. My dinner was served cold, our waiter tried to rectify by offering something else. By that time the whole dinner experience was beyond saving. The Sterling Steakhouse and Sabatini's were the better of the ship's dining facilities. We called ahead on the first night to get reservations for both on the formal nights (the thought of being in a ball gown holding your plate like in a lunch room was beyond imagination). The Sterling Steakhouse was amazing. It was worth the $10.00 per person charge. The steaks were out of this world, the service was what you would expect on a cruise line. Everything on the menu was top notch. It is a shame that you had to pay for better food. After eating at Sterling's we decided not to dine in the dining rooms or the buffet lines. Breakfast was unimaginative and became dull after a few days. Trying to locate a table at times was difficult with many passengers all trying to dine at the same time in rather small spaces. The wait staff in the Horizon Cafe was very imprisonable, it was difficult to get sodas at times. We would have to hunt down someone to get something to drink. At times we were never approached at all, basically ignored.

The ice cream Scoops was a joke. First of all, it was not free, like I have heard on other lines. We ordered a soft serve cone and the consistency of the ice cream was gritty and chalky. We returned it to be replaced by their hard scooped ice cream. That was not any better. We asked the attendant to try the ice cream and acknowledge that the product was below par. Again we received the same respond as we did in the cafe - indifferent.
