Carnival Legend - Eastern Caribbean

Sail Date: August 2005
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)

I just returned from the Carnival Legend 8 day cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. I have previously sailed on 3 other cruises.. two with Celebrity (Zenith and Mercury) and the other with Royal Caribbean (Explorer of the Seas).

Embarkation consisted of long lines after long lines. Arrived on ship to the atrium. Pretty nice.. however the decor is very busy.. complete with urns everywhere. and the same cheesy border around the whole ship. Weird for me.

The first 2 days at sea were ok. The first night at sea the ship was a rockin quite a bit. I know the ship has stabilizers but this was unacceptable, the ship is very narrow which caused it to sway. The 2nd night however was much better.

The dining room is way too small and cramped. The waiter and assistant were great. Shinahz from India and Brielad from the Philippines were good. Food was pretty good. I would say even with Royal Caribbean. Loved the dinner shows! The Follies shows were so-so. The pursers desk More worker Yekaterina was very nasty and snippy. It didn't seem as if they want to help out.. more of a "well that's the way it goes" kind of attitude.

The pool deck is small and the chairs were constantly breaking. However the pool deck workers were always working hard to keep it clean. The band was good but annoying playing the same stuff. Cruise director was funny and good. The casino, I felt, was full of under age minors sneaking in. Service definitely needs improvement. Carnival needs more activities. Royal Caribbean always had something fun going on. The stateroom was very spacious compared to others.

The ports of call were so-so. Puerto Rico was dirty and boring. Nothing to do there. St. Thomas was beautiful, nice beaches and good jewelry shops. Tortola was just a St. Thomas island with one beach.. it was nice though.

Had a few incidents and pursers desk could care less. Gave you no satisfaction.

The cruise was about a 5 on a scale of 1-10. Not horrible and unbearable, yet it lacked the excellence and perfection and pampering. It was just so-so. Wouldn't recommend this cruise ship or line. I would say Royal Caribbean and Celebrity for me! Less
