Have just returned from 7 day Caribbean cruise on the Epic. Boat is big but lacks the warmth of the Jewel class of Norwegian boats, both visually and in service. I am writing this review to warn people about the rigid policies of their kids club. We are a family of three with a just turned 13 year old daughter and traveled with another family of three who has a 12 year old daughter ( 13 in 4 months ). Due to their policies our children were not allowed to participate in the same childrens programs as one was 12 and the other 13. Since we took the trip primarily for the girls ( they are best friends ) we were extremely upset when we found absolutely no flexibility in the age groups. They would not even let my 13 year old participate in the children's programs and their teen program for 13 year olds was way too mature for a just turned 13 year old....dating game really?
So my review for kids entertainment.....F rating!! Beware if you travel with other families and expect to have some flexibility in the age groups as there is none. Royal Caribbean will bump up or down kids based on their maturity but not Norwegian!! They had no problem letting them in to adult venues like Second City etc where subject matters were questionable.
Adult entertainment was good. Blue Man Group fun and loved the Cirque Du Soleil show. Legends was a fun show as well as the late night magician Jeff Hobson. Cruise director was nowhere near as good as on other cruises....good thing he had a good staff. Bingo game was a money maker for Norwegian and not the players. For one session we figured they took in $6,000 and shared only about $1150 as prize payouts! Beware of bingo!! Also if you play go a 1/2 hour later as the selling process took over an hour to complete.
Food in specialty restaurants was very good...dining room not so good. Buffet was ample and adequate but by the end of the week we would have liked a little more variety.
Staterooms were interesting. Bathroom was crazy. Very uncomfortable as the glass was partially see thru and the noise level amplified.
Ports of call were nice however due to a scheduling error we were not allowed to dock in Nassau so our 3 port trip became two. Strange they could have a scheduling error as they do this every week. We all made the best of it because Norwegian plied everyone with rum punch to help with the disgruntled feelings.
I have been a huge fan of Norwegian and booked this after loving my trips on the Gem and the Jade and last years Oasis but there are big hits and misses on this boat. Was considering the Breakaway next but now not sure.
