Embarkation and debarkation as suite guests went smoothly as did transfers to and from airport. San Juan airport is in need of rehab and updating. It's dirty, unkempt, and expensive except for duty free booze. Ship is also older and need of updating. Repair work was constant near our stateroom and there was the persistent smell of methane in one area. One couple we met had it the odor so bad in there room, they had to keep the balcony door open at night to sleep which kept the AC from being effective. They could not be moved to another cabin as the ship was full. One specialty restaurant (Portofino) which was so-so. My T-bone was well cooked and flavorful, but my wife's veal saltimbocca was tough with an odd taste. Room service terrible with consistently cold food. Even in the main dining room, food often served at the wrong temp like cold to lukewarm escargot, and bland (blandest lobster tail ever). Best time on ship was in the Concierge Lounge available to all suite guests except mini suite guests. No extra charge drinks, food with a chance to mingle with a lot of fun people. Grand Suite was roomy with nice balcony, but we did not get the perks advertised (turn down treats, butler service, fresh fruit, et al). Ports were great as were the excursions: snorkeling at Buck Island St. Croix, Pitons St. Lucia, Barbados, with sting rays Antigua, and beach time at Orient Beach St. Martin. The aggravation, however, was our ship was always last in and first out of the ports. Ships coming behind ours especially at Antigua were docked before ours delaying our scheduled arrival by 1.5 hours. Despite the poor food, we would consider going again, but may just go on Celebrity with the same itinerary.

Cabin review: Grand Suite

Roomy and nice balcony. Mini-bar was just a fridge with sodas and snacks and Evian water. Fridge was not cold. Housekeeping good but suite perks lacking. Constant daytime maintenance in our hallway sometimes blocking the way. Quiet enough at night. Flat screen TV with a good variety of channels, DVD player. Not enough 110 outlets however. Full bath but shower/tub high enough from the floor to make getting in and out potentially difficult for anyone with mobility issues.

Port and Shore Excursions

Went on the sting ray snorkel. A distance from land, but shallow enough than one could walk (waist to chest deep). Fun though to hold and feed the rays. Our time was cut short by an hour as ship docked late. Rum punches served after returning to the marine were strong as 151 rum was used making the ride back in the bus to the port a lot less tedious.

2 snorkel spots: turtles up close (3) and shipwreck site with lots of different fish species. Final stop was at a beach but anchor spot was far enough offshore that one had to swim to the beach not allowing one to take anything with such as a towel. Most stayed on the boat or swam near it not going to the beach itself.
Buck Island snorkel fun, but rough waters and current could be daunting for the inexperienced. Shopping area around the port only fair.
Beautiful island. Snorkeled right under the Pitons which were magnificent. Roomiest of the snorkel boats that we had been on. Good music and drink with a lot of dancing amongst the guests and crew.
Beach Break
Orient Beach was a relaxing day. Lunch provided which was good. Some topless woman (most should not be) but far enough from Club Orient to not deal with the totally clothing optional.
