Ship Facts: Explorer of the Seas Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Explorer of the Seas Deck Plans
All-in-all good cruise
I will say the ship is lovely and in great shape. The decor is more understated then Carnival which is nice. The ship is very clean and well maintained.

We arrived at Cape Liberty at 11:00am, we were held in the big, cold terminal for about 45 minutes.Once we got the shuttle to the ship it was smooth sailing (or quick boarding). The terminal was a very negative experience. Cold, crowded and no real class to the process. You don't get that welcome feeling.

Once on the ship we made our way to lunch. It could be the cruisers from this particular port of departure but they were pushy and rude in the Windjammer. It was like a feeding frenzy. Other then that the food was very good and the staff very courteous and helpful.

Our cabin was ready at 1:30pm and our luggage already there. We had a Promenade cabin with a nice view of deck five. Our cabin Steward was Iris and she did a fine job. We let her know we were "low maintenance" and we didn't expect any extra service. She did a wonderful job and remained low key. Just the way we like it. As I said she did a fine job and we were very satisfied.

The entertainment was excellent and Richard Spacey, the Cruise Director was very entertaining and fun.

The MDR food was excellent. Lots of new foods to try. The menu had many vegetarian choices which we loved. The service in the MDR was excellent at dinner ( Our waiter Francisco and Assistant Letisha were very good.

Other meal service at breakfast and lunch in the MDR was hit or miss.

The ports of call where San Juan, St.Thomas, Samana ( D.R.) and Labadee. We recommend Terry's Tours in Samana. Very adventurous. If you have trouble walking distances don't go as there is a longish walk to the falls. I loved the whole experience. St. Thomas was a nice beach day for us. We took a taxi to Emerald Beach ( a resort there) and just rented chairs and umbrella and spent the day. A nice spot, clean calm waters. The whole day cost 48.00 for two people. San Juan was worthless.

All in all a good cruise. I liked cruising without having to fly but am not sure about doing it again. The other cruisers were at times pushy, rude and loud.
