We are a married couple in our early sixties. We don't usually cruise for travel (took one cruis on NCL 26 years ago) as we normally want to see many places, but really needed a relaxing break from work and in a warm spot. Wanted interesting ports and good food and no "mega ships". Wanted to avoid teenagers and rowdy party types so narrowed our choice to either Celebrity or RCL.
We were on the 1/26/13 sailing of the Celebrity Summit out of San Juan. I like that we had only one sea day which was the first day out. Visited Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Maarten, St. Thomas and loved them all.
While we are not experienced cruisers we were both extremely happy with our experience on the Celebrity Summit. I can't say enough about out well organized they are, the great food, service and choices in the main dining room and in the Ocean View Cafe/Buffet as well as poolside.
We loved the entertainment, especially Lisa Richard the cruise director. I cannot say enough about the entire crew - everyone from ladies restroom attendant, to the waiters, chefs, buffet servers, busboys, pool attendants, officers....you name it - they were friendly, cheerful and top notch. We did not meet a single grumpy staff member the entire week! We were amazed at the efficiency each time we left or boarded the ship. The security was amazing and the sanitation excellent. Kudos to the guys in the Crush Martini Bar, too.
Note: we don't drink sodas generally. We do like martinis and a glass of wine with dinner, so we found that we did better w/o the drink packages. Their cocktails were in the $10 range, plus 15% gratuity and wine roughly $9.00 per glass which is reasonalbe considering we were their captives.
There was alot of 'selling' of jewelry, art, etc in the guise of activities but we just ignored that. This was a great value and both fun and relaxing.
I really felt that the entire staff was aiming to make this a good experience and it certainly was.
We loved the Galley Tour.
