Just arrived back from our 12 day South Pacific Cruise on the Carnival Spirit. We booked this holiday for our honeymoon as we had read great reviews about the cruise. While we cannot fault the impeccable and friendly service staff, we are truly disappointed with our quality of sleep during the cruise. We paid top dollar for a deck 8 balcony cabin as we wanted the most comfortable room we could afford.
We could hear thumping foot steps, dragging chairs and trolleys being wheeled on the lido deck above our bed late into the night and very early in the morning (prior to 7am). To make things worse, the room had a very loud creaking noise that was relentless. After the first night we mentioned this to our room steward who suggested that we purchase ear plugs from the gift shop. Unfortunately they did not have any available at the time. We have been looking forward to coming home just to get a good nights sleep.
Had we known we would be in such a noisy cabin we would have More
saved the extra expense and stayed on a lower and cheaper deck.
To make matters worse we were double charged the cc convenience fee and have had to pay a foreign transaction fee on our Mastercard as Carnival use an overseas bank account. After several emails to guest care we were later reimbursed the convenience fee but initially told there had been no error.
Some tips for new cruisers;
-If you have any concerns with the service or any thing on board the cruise report it to the guest services straight away "not the cabin steward"
-Use the on board cash sail and sign card if possible to avoid any unnecessary fees on your cc
-If you are a light sleeper don't purchase a room underneath the main deck, save your money
All in all a very memorable cruise but for all the wrong reasons. Less
