This was an OK cruise. The Golden is going to be refurbished in May and i think it is just the right time for an upgrade
Food was very good. Service in main dining room very good. Service in Buffets just OK. Very slow to get you beverages . Needed better supervisors who mostly were standing around chatting with each other . They need to put restroom by each dining room. On 6 Aft dining room you have to go up to 7 which is very inconvenient
Our mini suite was great . We normally take balcony but splurge and the extra space was very nice
Entertainment on Princess just is not that great. One good comedian Kevin Hughes and one who was average. Magician was ok but show-times made it hard to get to. Singer was good although others did not like her. Shows are average .
The real problem is that Princess has cut the time of main shows to 30 minutes and does 3 shows nightly . They say it allows more flexibility and better for anytime dining. but when you still have to cram 700-800 folks into a somewhat uncomfortable theater and then fight with folks to get out you want more than 30 minutes of entertainment .
Also early seating was at 5:30. We much prefer 6 the 30 minutes does make a difference especially when in port.
Weather in Hawaii was great but crossing 5 days in each direction 3-4 days each way were cloudy and choppy . Of course that is not Princess fault .
Activities during the day were marginal. Movies were good. On the Ruby house band played every day by main pool at noon. However never so on Golden.
First time cruisers likely loved it. Veteran cruisers picked up on several admittedly picky issues. We did have a good time, but it could have been better. Average age on this cruise is in the 70's
