My wife and I took the Pride of America for our anniversary cruise. We were hoping that this cruise would be the best ever, it wasn't. Since it is registered in Honolulu, you have to be an American citizen to work on board. We noticed that the wait staff was not dressed to impress. Shoes not shined, shirts wrinkled, not very polite. For a ship that was only a year and a half old, there were things that were worn out, rusted and broken. Our life boat from our cabin had rusted cables. Life jacket covers in the bow walkway were torn.
I checked our the history of the PoA and found out it was being built in the US until the company went broke. Then they towed it to Europe to finish the build. They cut it in half and they added a 75 foot section. Sometime during the completion of the build, it SANK. Not too good of a record.
During the morning meal at the buffet, only one line was open causing a back-up of foot traffic of hungry vacationers. At about 7 AM, coffee was not made. During the dinner, my wife had to tell the chefs that the rice was not done. They needed to soak it longer before cooking it. The sushi chef really didn't know very much what he was doing. I did not meet our expectations. We are going back to Princess Cruises as we just finished one cruise in December and are planning another in September. This will be our fourth Princess Cruise.
