Nice cruise but nothing special...

Sail Date: January 2013
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Galveston

Arrived early at port and embarkation process very quick for Priority and looking at the regular line, that also moved well. Agent could not find our Sign and Sail (not in envelope) and issued us a Pier Pass. Were told to see customer Relations on the ship for a regular card...we did but were told to come back later as they were still uploading current cruise information. Returned 2 hours later and were quickly on our way.

We were surprised that the ship layout was almost totally reminiscent of Carnival Victory...but very plain in appearance with the emphasis on glass tile and chrome. This ship will not WOW you.

Since we were in a Spa stateroom we went and got our armband and were given a very comprehensive tour. Using the scented steam rooms, hot beds, and sauna were one of the highlights of the on board experience. Generally not that crowded when we used the facilities.

We had early dining and it worked well. Wait staff very attentive but meal delivery was More often very slow...we believe it was a kitchen issue as every sea day the Punchliner Comedy Brunch service was also extremely slow (but the food was worth the 1/2 - 3/4 hour wait). We know meals are supposed to be relaxed but 1/2 hour between courses is a little excessive, or in the case of Brunch, a 1/2 hour for the order to be taken and 3/4 hour for delivery.

By the way, there was not really any comedy at the brunch. What you got was about 3 jokes and an invitation to see that night's comedy. We are really not the show type but did go to the adult comedy which was excellent.

Overall we had a pleasant cruise (no cruise is bad) but we rank this one in the bottom 10 of the 30 we have taken do to the lack of WOW factor and slow meal service. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Magic Interior Panorama 11211

Cabin service was great but we feel the actual cabin was the most plain and sterile decor we have ever had on a cruise ship. It was more on the order of Motel 6. We loved the location of cabin 11211 as we were just around the corner from the spiral staircase and elevator to Cloud 9 and a short walk out to the pool area.

Port and Shore Excursions

We snorkeled in Belize at Anthony's Cay and the variety of fish was impressive and small guided groups very well orchestrated. We would take this snorkel trip again. We did not take the time to go into Belize City as we have been there many times before and decided just to enjoy some time on board in the spa.

We walked the 3 or so miles downtown in Cozumel to get our exercise. We took a cab back as the cost was only 4 dollars a person and we were carrying some heavy packages. We have been to Cozumel many times and there is a reason it is on almost every Western Caribbean trip.

We had never been to Roatan where we did the zip line. We would recommend it as it is a short walk from the pier and consists of 11 lines of various lengths. The beach was also a short walk and crowded with two ships in port. Don't waste your money on the sky lift to get there.
