We are experienced cruisers and have been on many cruises all over the world. We wanted to take a cruise on a true mega ship and we choose the Independence of the Seas. We were not disappointed.

Embarkation.

We stayed overnight near the port and went over at 11:30 as the ship was starting to board. It took a while for the taxi to make it into port. The ship is berthed in number 29 which is a bit out and under somewhat undercapacitied for taxi drop off.

We had no trouble embarking as we pre-prepared by doing as much as we could on line before we arrived. We were Gold for this cruise and the line moved a lot faster than the Emerald-Diamond. This should not happen.

Room.

We had an outside cabin, port side rear on deck 2. In rough weather, I would opt for a higher floor as you could hear the waves hitting the ship which was not bad in the easy water we had. The room was a lot wider than we expected by about two feet which was great. Plenty More of closet space and hangers. Great new queen bed which was firm. Nice flat screen TV with some programming. Bathroom was marginal. Nice picture window. Good cabin service. Thanks John.

Ship

Was great. Plenty of room on top but dont expect to go out at 11am and find something decent. Solarium up front was crowded early. Nice Reggae entertainment. Decent sized show lounge but get there early for the first show if you want a seat or go to the second show which was never full. Beautiful full length indoor promenade. Nice touch. Good gym up front. Elevators somewhat under capacitied and did not indicate up or down when waiting. Decent common areas.

Food.

Windjammer cafe always had something to eat. It was hard to find a seat. No opening at the rear. It was all enclosed. Bummer. Stay away from the sugar free food as it is addictive.

Dining room. Was almost elegant. I thought the food was fine my wife thought that it was wanting although she did have a good steak on the last night. Friendly personable service. We did mytime dining and this is recommended.

Entertainment.

Show Lounge. Best entertainment at sea! A good show every night including the first and last night. Full orchestra and no lip syncing.

Disembarkation.

We walked off with our luggage as we had an early flight. They started letting us off at 6am but there were no taxi's! They were waiting for the Ruby Princess which was being held up. In fact, seven ships wee letting out at the same time! You could make a 8-8:30 flight but not much earlier. Less
