Ship Facts: Carnival Destiny Review (by Cruise Critic!) | Carnival Destiny Deck Plans
Hope they overhaul the crew with the ship overhaul.
My husband and I booked this cruise for our Anniversary. We decided to try a new port and a new ship versus returning to the Fantasy this trip. Our youngest came along since she was on a school break. Embarkation went smoothly and everyone was very friendly. Headed to lido to wait for our cabin to be ready. After 1:45 the door to the cabins were opened mid ship. We made the walk to the aft to stow our luggage. Our room was not ready and the cabin steward seemed taken back that people were coming to the rooms already. We stowed our bags and checked over our room. Our steward made his way in to put a bottle of water on the counter. During the cruise we never had an ice bucket even when we asked. After we locked items in the safe we noticed we only had 2 life jackets. My husband called the number on the phone(35) and was connected with the head housekeeper. He asked for a life jacket since we only had 2. She argued with my husband that it was there and to check again. He again told her we only had two, not three and there are three of us in the cabin. She was not pleasant and told him the room was marked as done and that he was wrong. She finally agreed to check with the steward.

The cabin itself is large. But once you get going it is loud and you feel a lot of vibration. We couldn't get the room temperature below 70 even with the vent fully open. Vent is super loud too. We also had tiny ants which we told the steward about, but he didn't know what they were. We had them under the tv, vanity and in the bathroom. Food in the room was not an issue. We ate in our cabin one time.

Muster was a mess. People stacked in rows 4 deep for over 30 minutes. Many people showed up long after we were called to assemble holding everything up.

The food in the dining room was good. It didn't come out in a consistent order at all. If you asked for something special they often acted like they didn't understand or just ignored you instead. Asking for something on the side shouldn't be an issue. Having your drink filled even. It wasn't on our previous cruise. Wait staff acted like they didn't understand what you were saying even when reading from the menu directly. We pointed to what we wanted many times. Staff cleaning and doing other jobs around the ship on the other hand would strike up conversations with you any time they crossed your path. In the elevators, hall ways etc... They made more effort then our assigned crew members.

We ate as many meals in the dining room as we could because buffet lines were long!

If the itinerary includes Jamaica I highly recommend staying on the ship and enjoying the quiet.

Camp Carnival was excellent. Very nice women who chatted with us and made sure our daughter had a fantastic time!

Guest services was rude. When you go to them to ask a question, being laughed at by the three standing there is not ok. Who do you go to with issues when guest services is rude? It wasn't a stupid question even. Being ridiculed was unprofessional. We asked about the front deck on 6 and 7. Guest services said it was not a public deck(incorrect) and that we were not permitted to go there. We went to front decks on the Fantasy to which they laughed at him and told him this isn't the Fantasy. RUDE! My husband later asked a floor supervisor with the cleaning staff who happily told him that he could go out on deck 6 or 7, that it was no big deal. It was a great place to take pictures of arrival and departure from ports. Something my shutterbug of a husband enjoys.

We enjoyed our time watching movies under the stars. The dive-in blankets were great! In Grand Cayman we took the Turtles, Turtles and more Turtles excursion and love it! Highly recommend. We tried to make the most of the entire trip. These small incidents add up to a not so great experience and make me say that unless they change attitudes the remodel will make no difference.
