Just returned yesterday from a 4 day cruise to the Bahamas on the Norwegian Sky. This cruise was perfect for first time cruisers or if you are looking for a quick getaway. My friend and I (my friend hasnt cruised in 20 yrs) were looking for just that, a quick getaway, and I to get back into cruising (its been 6 yrs for me). We booked through a local travel agent in the beginning of December. We arrived in Miami the day before we were set to take off on the ship. This was a great idea just in case our flight got delayed. We stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites. Im glad we only had to stay there overnight. Most likely will not be staying there again, and do not suggest it.
Embarkation: we arrived at the port of Miami at 1230 pm. I was hoping to get there earlier so we could settle onto the ship and find our way around before the crowds started, but the shuttle from the hotel only had one time, 12 pm. Once we arrived at the port, the baggage man was very rude and basically told More
us we had to tip him. We then proceeded into the NCL building to get screened and check in. This was an easy and fast process. We had our room cards and was on the ship in no time. Once on the ship the rooms were ready when we got there so we dropped our bags off at the room and headed for lunch.
Food: food was ok if your not too picky. Included your basic fries and burgers, usual buffet food and desserts. With the four day cruise, i did miss the shrimp and lobster, none of which was offered during the cruise. We did try Cagneys steakhouse for dinner one night and we highly recommend it for a good steak.
Ports: included Freeport and Nassau and Castaway Cay. Offered the usual souvenirs and sun. We did swim with the dolphins in Freeport, which was an amazing experience. Snorkeling at castaway was great, but next time we will be bringing our own gear as it was rather expensive to rent theirs for the day($27). This was for one set of gear.
Ship: You can definitely tell it was an older ,smaller ship. Even my friend who hasn't sailed in 20 yrs made a comment about the shape of the ship. A Lot of rust all around and outside tables with pieces of wood missing and looking shabby. The crew was friendly but not very talkative and always looked tired .Some were even sleeping on the way back from Castaway Cay. Not too outgoing. There wasn't alot of variety of shows or activities, alot of the same stuff everyday. The comedian was ok the first night, and thats all we went to. I also missed the day at sea for relaxation, but thats because it was only a 4 day cruise so there was no time for it.
Disembarkation: Easy enough, was off the ship by 8:30 am and got the transfer offered by NCL to Miami airport. We were checked in at the airport by 9:45 .If you don't have a lot of luggage, its easier to carry your own luggage off the ship yourself, than to go and find it in the sea of luggage at the port. All in all a great time, but definitely will so a 7 days cruise from now on! Less

Inside mid-ship room was great for the price and ok for 2 people but probably not any more than that.
Ok, kind of crowded. First thing we saw when we were pulling up in the transfer boat was trucks and things under construction. Not very tropical island like, not a great first impression. Alot of the palm trees were quite damaged from the hurricane, some browned and most leaves missing. The beach was also very crowded, and the beach chairs were so close together, you have to climb into them and flop. Not very comfortable when your wet and covered in sand. The island bbq building was not very close to where the beach was. It was quite a walk to get to and walk back from. Food was typical bbq food, burgers hotdogs and chicken, and some sort of dried up pizza. We also ordered a drink from one of the few drink waiters, and he came back 20 mins later, after we watched him gossiping with one bartender and another waiter with our drink in hand, melting. There were also a few straw market huts with non NCL employees selling the same stuff we saw at the first to islands. I wish they were selling Castaway Cay stuff, not more Bahamian stuff. It was an ok island overall.
