My partner and I have just returned from a Western Med cruise on the Costa Pacifica. In Costa`s defence, it was a reasonably priced cruise, but we now know why...we suspect that this is the primary tool used to entice business.
We have read another recent review from TONVI this echoes our own experience precisly!!!
There is no control of children, no policing of Costa`s OWN rules and regulations. This includes, but not limited to, children under 16 in hot tubs,adult only pools,Spa areas and the use of lifts while unaccompanied by adults. We repeatedly witnessed infants in nappies in all pools and hot tubs, parents and staff clearly prepared to ignore ANY rule or regulation. I wonder how these parents would have re acted if my partner and I showed total lack of respect and used the pool/hot tubs in the nude!! Or tried to frequent the toddlers area... we are SURE that rule would be enforced and we would be in alot of trouble. Yet we are expected to experience the total and unashamed disrespect of anarchic adults re pools and hot tubs with nude infants deficating in the water. Infants so young that they wear nappies so obviously have no control yet over their toileting...
Families may say that they are ` on holiday`. This doesn`t give them the right to do just as they want because they want to do just what they want, when ever they want....expecting to have the ship totally at their disposal. Pushchair hell, they were EVERYWHERE. Children and infants littered the dance floor late into the evening, the parents thinking it hilarious. Not only was it rather late to keep babies up, why wern`t the older children in school? The christmas holidays had ended.
With a total disregard,inability or unwillingness to enforce their own rules and regulations, I fear for the general safety of passengers and the ship however much Costa may protest. Now after my own experience and the publicity regarding the Concordia...Costa never,never ever from me again.
Our experience of the waiters in the New York New York dining room left a lot to be desired.. We had a table for 2,on the first night it took 40 mins+ to get our starter, over 2hrs for the whole meal. Most of the dining room was empty by the time we eventually left! We had a drinks package, when they realised this after the first glass of wine, nobody ever came back to offer further service. We asked for the maitre `d to complain. Well, what looked like a renagade from a retirement home turned up. Miserable,scruffy and all the carisma of a cold potato! We were made to feel that we had not right or reason to complain. We asked to move tables to a different waiter. We were refused. We have to assumed that as we boarded in Barcelona, all the Italians had been given the best tables!
Service in the dining room at breakfast was no better. We asked for cooked items on their menu, but we were told that apart from fried eggs, we had to `get it yourself`. Give them their due,the waiters at breakfast did seem to be expert in standing around talking to each other and picking their noses!!!!
Never saw the cabin steward,and we also had a problem with the waste bin repeated being left wedged under the chair under the vanity. I can only assumed she didn`t want us to use it?????
All in all, we can only compare the ship to having the ambience and service quality of a cross channel ferry!! So before you book, please, please, please do your research and realise your expectations.
