New Years Ultimate Caribbean

Sail Date: December 2012
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Overall the cruise was great, nothing to complain about. Celebrity lived up to their reputation.

The embarkation was very smooth and quick, we flew in to Ft. Lauderdale early so we had about a twenty minute wait to board the ship. Once on board we had to wait for our room to be ready but expected that so we had lunch and checked out some of the ship.

Our stateroom was one that was in the bump out area near the elevators and had a balcony. Great location near the game room, we never had to walk down any of the long hallways to our room. Our room attendant did a fabulous job, he left us fresh wine glasses at all times which was great because we carried 4 bottles on and enjoyed a glass of wine on our balcony as we sailed away from most of the ports.

We did the select dining and as always we loved doing it at our schedule. The food was a little better than average but we have had better on other cruise ships and other lines. We dined in the Tuscany Grill (Italian More Steak)and it was very, very good as expected since it does come with a price.

The entertainment was about what is found on most cruises these days and was not greatly attended by many cruisers. We only went to about a third of the shows ourselves. I think people are getting board with average entertainment.

We liked the bar at the back of the ship on deck 14, great place to relax.

The ship is in great shape and the staff was friendly and helpful, overall a very good cruise. Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Equinox Deluxe Ocean View W/ Veranda Vista Deck (8) 9272

Our cabin was just past the game room and was good because we never had to walk down any long hallways. The balcony was great and we liked having the bed next to the sliding doors. The closets are small and hard to get to, not much storage either. Overall very good, mid ship and easy to get to everything.

Port and Shore Excursions

City Tour

Toured the fort but would have liked to have seen more of it, very good. The old cathedral was interesting and all of the other areas that we saw were good but so crowded that the experience was not what it could have been. They took us to some shopping areas but was very limited and way too crowded. Mostly disappointed in Cartagena, very hot and very crowded.

Embera Indian Tour

Very interesting and fun. To get there we went in dug out canoes across the lake and to a waterfall that was beautiful and refreshing, then stopped at the village where they fed us fish they had caught and grilled, very good. Gave us some history and did some dancing for us.

Gatun Locks

(5.5)
A must see! It only took about 30 minutes to see how things work and we got to see some huge ships go through, very interesting.

We just took a $2 taxi to the beach and had one of the best beach days ever. Free beach chairs and umbrella and they wait on you for all drinks and food. The lunch was great that we ordered (fresh grilled fish) and they set a table up for us right on the beach. Very reasonable prices.

Culinary Tour

This was a cooking class at the beach that was my wife's idea but I have to say I enjoyed it very much. We've been to Cozumel often and wanted to do something different. We cooked Grouper and it was great. We had about 2 hours at the beach afterwords. I recommend this tour.

Catamaran Tour

(5.5)
The best tour of our trip, we always love to sail and this one was very good. We snorkeled and swam with the Stingrays. They gave us pizza and we had a great sail back to port. Of course it helped that we only had 8 people (they could have had up to 23). We always try to sail at least one stop on every cruise and this one was one of our favorites.

Stingray Swim

(5.5)
We were a little hesitant about this tour but highly recommend it.

Rainforest Aerial Tram Tour

I was combining both tours, long day and a lot of driving.

The Tortuguero Canals

This tour was nice but very long with a lot of driving, our least favorite of our trip.
