Family Caribbean Cruise and Wedding

Sail Date: January 2013
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Enjoyed the Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas. The ship was wonderful, with many activities for grandchildren and adults. The shows and ice show were highlights during the evenings.....Enjoyed the three ports of call, Grand Cayman, Jamaica, (esp Dunn's River Falls) and Labadee Private Island in Haiti.

Service staff, both cabin and dinning room were excellent!

Only negative was the food did not match the hype. Had much better food, both quality and selection on Holland America, Carnival and NCL.

Eldest daughter got married on the ship on the day we first sailed. The ceremony and location of the wedding was very nice, coordinator did a great job, only problem was arranging issues (keeping in contact with coordinator, long waits between the company responses to phone messages or e-mails) The cost was reasonable other than the photo packages. When we wanted to add additional photos to the (package we did purchase in advance) could only purchased More other photo packages at significant cost, we were disappointed that we could not purchase individual pictures to supplement the package we had pre-paid. Cabin review: Independence of the Seas Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom Deck 6 7626

First time we had balcony cabins after nine other cruises, (four cabins for the eleven of us). We would not do without again. Bathroom was better than expected, pull down bunk was OK for kids, not for an adult in the three adult cabin, steward gave us a roll away bed after the first night! Much appreciated. Cabin location amidships was fine. Was easy to get to dinning rooms or entertainment venues.

Port and Shore Excursions

The town in Jamaica was stated to be colonial but we really didn't get to see much, the shops were right by the dock.....Adults and children really loved the adventure of Dunn's River Falls, however locals were very pushy at the site looking for tips and sales of trinkets.

Was a different location, smaller than expected, but was OK. The actual site was impressive, with a couple of shops and post office nearby.

Island Tour

Getting started was the problem, once the tour got started everything was great.

Turtle Farm

Our guide/driver was excellent. However because we were a group of ten we got the last vehicle after all others and had to wait an extended period, but once the excursion started we were very happy. We were the only passengers on the vehicle which the grandchildren really liked.

Our grandchildren had a fabulous beach experience with total safety. Buffet meal on the beach was below average.
