This was our second time on the Carnival Legend with the same itinerary, the first being two years ago. We are gold members with Carnival and have also cruised with all the major cruise lines. There has been a significant decline in services provided. We were with a group of family and friends and this made the cruise a success. As we had a Vista suite, we received special check-in procedures. That seemed to be about the only special perk that was associated with the suite.
Our suite had a broken chair which was never fixed. Because the suite is located at the very back of the ship, the area is a hodgepodge of rooms. Not what was expected for a suite. Our cabin stewards did their job adequately. Dining was another matter altogether. The food was mediocre at best. It usually arrived lukewarm. The choices were very limited. This was in contrast to the dining options on our previous Legend cruise. The dining room stewards did not seem well trained, even though ours tried to do their best.
We had booked the steak house for one night. The food was excellent and more than plentiful. The selections were varied and interesting. The wait staff was also very good. We booked another night primarily to escape the food and services in the dining room. Did not eat a great deal at the buffet. They seemed to close very early in the afternoon.
Bar services were surprisingly poor. Not enough personnel to serve drinks. It seems Carnival has down sized on the number of staff. We had a few drinks in several bars, including the Serenity area. On several occasions the person serving drinks was nowhere to be seen and we were informed that he was sent to another location. Why pay gratuities if you have to get your own drinks?
The time in port was too short, especially in Belize which included long line-ups for tendering. Very disappointed in that.
Bottom line. We usually get a down payment for a future cruise. Not so this time. This was our last cruise with Carnival unless they improve their services significantly.
