Holiday in Ruins: Eurodam Cruise Review by marinelife2

Holiday in Ruins
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
ENTERTAINMENT: The main stage entertainment was excellent. The singers and dancers performed wonderfully and really put their heart into it. The Adagio strings are accomplished musicians and were enjoyed by many. The HAL cats needed a bit more experience in this case, although they tried. The guitar and some c/w in the crows nest appealed to a very few and was out of place.
FACILITIES: Well maintained and clean. The aft pool had a major problem one evening and was serviced fast by the capable crew. It was up and running by morning. Hot tubs were actually hot and pool temp. was good. The aft pool staff ensured the pool there was for 'adult use only'. They did a great job and so they should. Although the mid lido pool is very cluttered with cabanas, chairs etc, it's still very generous for kids and families. The aft pool area should More be for 'adult use only' and have much better signage. In contrast the Westerdam had kids all over the aft pool and hot tubs; some wearing diapers. Don't go on that ship if you are planning an adult type of holiday.
HOUSEKEEPING; A special beach towel is now provided to take to the shore etc., and is the responsibility of guests. This is a good idea and I would encourage HAL to use this system for the pools. Here's why; guests leave towels around the ship and on chairs making pool chairs less available to others who think they're still in use because a towel was left there. It would also reduce costs and save water in addition to making the ship look a lot neater. If you agree, please let HAL know.
TRANSFERS TO SHORE; Uh yes, the 'tender' performance. Organization is missing in this department. We were informed we could pick up a blue numbered boarding pass on deck 2. We get there to find a large line up and then told, "you will all have to wait although people sitting will get one first". This went on well over an hour. When the distribution finally started it was followed with a slight bit of pushing and tensions. Theses people naturally proceeded straight to deck 1 to disembark as it's closer than going back to their cabins and not long before going to shore. So there were way too many people congregating around staircases etc,. An officer eventually arrived and had to yell over the crowd. I thought this guy was going to have to 'pull out a pistol' and fire into the ceiling. Yes people, it was me that yelled back, "Mickey Mouse could have handled this situation better". The truth is HAL should consult Disney for crowd control solutions if they don't understand that giving out passes 3 hours before hand would help.
FOOD: Excellent! One more time, Excellent!! If there was a 6 star rating, The Pinnacle Grill would get it. The main dinning room gets 5. Excellent, tasty, innovative food served hot and in a reasonable time. Now a few disappointments; cuts of meat however, are slipping on HAL's MDR, with no rack of lamb or pork. Just some slices or chunks of meat. The Lido could use a tune up. Sushi was poor and some of the other food there was too over processed and commercial. This shouldn't be a problem to fix as cost didn't appear to be the issue.
*One of the most unforgivable things they did is put 'Chocolate Chippies' in their famous Bread Pudding. Whoever thought that idea up should be keel-hauled. HAL, we're not kiddies. Cut the Chocolate chips and smarten up; it requires raisins.
SHORE EXCURSIONS: Our Holiday Was In Ruins, and we can thank HAL for that. Costa Maya was fantastic and the 'ruins' at Chacchoben was amazing. Highly recommend Costa Maya, Roatan and of course Half Moon Cay. Less
