The boarding in San Diego was a bit chaotic but we arrived onto the ship after about 40 minutes. Our cabin was on deck 8 and as we have cruised with Celebrity before it was as expected. We booked a Concierge class cabin. Basically I chose this over a standard balcony cabin as at the time we booked we got an extra $100 on board credit for very little extra money. We had a welcome bottle of sparkling wine, hors d'oeuvres delivered to the room every afternoon (these were sometimes good but repetetive!) , fresh fruit in the room every day and flowers in the cabin and bathroom.
Although this ship has been solsticised it really doesn't bear much resemblance to one of the newer Solstice class ships. We were on the Eclipse last year and I would say it is far superior in every respect.
We both booked drinks packages which worked out well for us.
We ate in the main dining room (Trellis) in the evening as we had select dining which suited us perfectly. The menu was on a 14 day rotation. Food presentation and quality were usually good. However, one evening we both chose different starters and mains and they were all terrible. We did mention this to the maitre d.
The library was a disappointment. Really old books. Very few new ones appeared until very near the end of the cruise then the library was closed due to the Norovirus.
We didn't eat breakfast but on the days at sea it was very busy in the buffet restaurant.
We went on four excursions and enjoyed them very much. Celebrity are excellent at describing how long and what kind of terrain you will be walking on ie cobbled streets, uphill etc However, this seemed to be a problem to the Americans - who on the whole seemed to be surprised on every excursion about the walking time/terrain and exactly where the tour was visiting!! The tour had to be changed slightly in Puerto Vallarta as one lady had had a knee replacement and couldn't do hills so we all missed out.
Several passengers and staff got the Norovirus near the end of the cruise so all food was served by the staff - there was no self service at all.
The disembarkation was the worst I have ever experienced. Disembarkation times were staggered. It took 2hrs and 15 minutes. from the time we left the ship till we were through immigration.
