Carnival Magic 7 night Western Caribbean cruise

Sail Date: December 2012
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Galveston

December 2012, We took our family on the Carnival Magic for an early Christmas present. My wife and I love cruising and decided to take our two children along for their present.

The ship was beautiful, well maintained and the crew seemed very polite and attentive. We did the early bird boarding in Galveston that went seamlessly. We were on board in no time

We did try the "Any time dining", that we were disappointed in. The first three days, were long lines to get into the dining room. After that time it seemed that most people became frustrated with the lines and chose to go to the Buffet. Another drawback was you did not get your same waiters which I felt distracted from the expected cruising experience.

Both kids (ages 11 and 15) once they began interacting in Camp Carnival and the Teen Only Club, Had the time of their lives. In fact while on the ship, we hardly saw them.

Over all the family had a great time on the ship and are eager to book again More with Carnival.
As a side note, when its just the wife and I traveling, We prefer the Royal Caribbean Cruise line. Its a little more expensive, but worth it. When we travel with the children, We use Carnival. The cost difference helps to off set the additional two tickets. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Magic Balcony Upper 6274

Kind of small for 4 but very usable Good location on the ship (in the middle of a very large ship) Close to elevators.

Port and Shore Excursions

Third time to Cozumel and this time was the best. We had heard from friends to visit Mr. Sancho's beach resort. Only a 10 min. taxi ride from the port. About $30.00 per person included beach chairs, umbrella, all the drinks and food you cared to consume. Has a pool with a swim up bar, Shopping, and Kayaks. for an additional fee, ocean floating toys, Para Sailing, Wave Runners, ATV's and Horseback Riding. Everything that you would want in one stop. Food was Incredible and staff was very attentive. would Highly recommend this stop next time to Cozumel

Used this destination as a Shopping day. the port was very clean with friendly people. Shopping was close to the tenders peer. Good deals to be found at the shops. Only regret was not being able to shop and go to some of the nicest beaches in the western Caribbean.

Try to have a plan prior to arriving in Montego Bay. We wasted about 2 hours of our port experience. We had planned on going on our own to "just find a nice beach and enjoy the sand and surf. Being unfamiliar with Jamaica, We were discouraged from going to a beach that was recommended by a crew member by port security, stating that there was a lot of "bandits" there. We ended up getting on a bus with 20 other people and a bus driver that wanted to drop all of us off at a single destination. Trying to get 20 strangers to agree on one thing was next to impossible. Some wanted to go to the beach, some wanted to go shopping and others wanted to go sight seeing. The bus driver wanted to take us to where he was going to get the best kick back $$$. We ended up at Doctors Cove Beach. Once there, we had a great time. Nice beach, nice restaurant and a decent price. About $8.00 per person plus an additional $8.00 for chairs and umbrella. The Food was Awesome ! Definitely would go there again, With a different bus driver.
