December 2012, We took our family on the Carnival Magic for an early Christmas present. My wife and I love cruising and decided to take our two children along for their present.
The ship was beautiful, well maintained and the crew seemed very polite and attentive. We did the early bird boarding in Galveston that went seamlessly. We were on board in no time
We did try the "Any time dining", that we were disappointed in. The first three days, were long lines to get into the dining room. After that time it seemed that most people became frustrated with the lines and chose to go to the Buffet. Another drawback was you did not get your same waiters which I felt distracted from the expected cruising experience.
Both kids (ages 11 and 15) once they began interacting in Camp Carnival and the Teen Only Club, Had the time of their lives. In fact while on the ship, we hardly saw them.
Over all the family had a great time on the ship and are eager to book again with Carnival.
As a side note, when its just the wife and I traveling, We prefer the Royal Caribbean Cruise line. Its a little more expensive, but worth it. When we travel with the children, We use Carnival. The cost difference helps to off set the additional two tickets.
