This time we made a cruise again with the Norwegian Spirit 9 days Canary Islands + Madeira from 21-30 December 2013 departing from Barcelona,Spain. Checking in was a breeze and our balcony-cabin(11106)on deck 11 was nice.. not great but nice what i couldn't say about our balcony....the glass pannels and balcony walls were very dirty and could also use some cleaning and painting, there was rust everywhere so you can imagine it was not pleasant to sit on it!
The best thing on our cabin was Franky(originated from India, Goa),our cabin stewart, he did make a good job, he was fantastic in averyway so we gave him every morning an extra 5 dollar a day for his services!
My greatest complaint what so ever was concerning the food on board....it was terrible, Quality was reasonable but EVERYDAY the same food at the Buffet-restaurant with no variation at all was BORING, yes very BORING! It seems that this was done intentional by NCL to force passengers to book a table at one of there specialty restaurants on which you have to pay extra between 10 and 33 Dollar/person!!I think that when NCL offer you a cruise all meals included than they have to make sure that they can fullfill there promesse and made sure they can serve a good range of quality meals everyday with enough variation in it BUT.....in my opinion NCL is now doing anything possible to get as much as possible dollars out of our pockets like for example the following.... everywhere and on every occasion there are fotographers who bothers you to take a picture of you, going ashore, getting back on the ship, during your lunch or dinner at the specialty restaurant, while drinking something at a bar and so on and on,it was ok if they shoot photo's at reasonable prices but they aren't!Prices of Bottles of sparkling mineral water on board: Minibar in your cabin = 6,04$ for 0,75liter San Pelegrino. Room Service: 4,50$ for the same bottle!! Why the difference?
Postcards + stamps on board: one dollar each!!!!Postcards ashore: between 50 and 80 cents a card and 70 cents for one international stamp! So NCL makes 20 to 50 cents profit on a simple postcard and 30 cents on a stamp, how dare they do that to there beloved passengers who payed alredy a big amount of money to make this cruise!!! No, for me it's clear NCL is nothing more than a money-making machine who tries to get as much as possible money out of our pockets and it would be ok if the cruise offered was ok too in every possible way but it isn't!!!! I made some years ago a Norwegian Spirit cruise in the Caraiben with departure out of New Orleans,USA and this cruise was fantastic, on a scale of one to ten i will give the Carebian Cruise out of New Orleans a score of 9,5 and the one departing from Barcelona 4,5/10!!! Yes this last cruise dissappointed me that much that i consider never to cruise again with NCL!
