Thanksgiving 2012 on Epic

Sail Date: November 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

We had a disappointing start with embarkation. We were directed to Latitudes first, then sent to Casinos at Sea where we were checked in and escorted to VIP check in. We were not given any information or advance offers because we were already checked in. We were then put on an elevator and told it would take us directly to our Concierge but were not told it would stop on 18 floors first and we would be squashed in a corner. WRONG! We should have had an express ride up accompanied by a Butler, Concierge or VIP person. It was an unpleasant and disappointing beginning.

Being Thanksgiving week, the ship was jam packed full of extremely rude passengers and unattended children that had poor manners. We would have been unhappy had we been in the general population. Fortunately, we had a spa suite and were pampered with private spaces, private pool, pri ate bar, restaurant and lounge areas.

The Haven was fabulous. We had a delightful spot to dine three meals a day More with no reservation required. The food was a cut above regular dining. The staff very personable and attentive.

The sunbathing areas were well appointed and comfortable. Refreshments were served during the heat of the day consisting of skewers of fresh bite sized fruits, cool cloths were offered, and an occasional spritz with a water bottle. A grill was available as was a private elevator to the common area outdoor grill should you want to venture into the crowds for food.

The water slide was a blast and the wait wasn't objectionable at all. There were three choices of slides and my favorite was the one with the drain! Lots of fun.

The suite was I treating. Took a bit to adjust to a round bed, but we did. The shower was large. There was a separate area for the head. A somewhat cramped but functional vanity was situated behind the bed for women to make up with ample lighting. A jacuzzi tub was situated in the suite but we stayed too busy to use it.

The room was a nit cramped. I believe I would have preferred a table and chairs or a couch rather than the jacuzzi. The curvy walls were nice but left little space for storage. Few drawers and split closets made it is little troublesome to locate clothes.

We loved the pizza served right to our balcony by the Butler at a fee of $5.00. Well worth it.

Blue Man Group show and Cirque Show were excellent. Legends was typical but the Michael Jackson impersonator did an outstanding job.

The Concierge took us to the theaters in advance of other guests and we were afforded premium seating before the rush of the crowds.

We were not I pressed with the casino. It had a weird layout and the machines were tight. Not much fun there.

The specialty dining was good. La Trattoria was our favorite. Cagney's was overbooked or understaffed and the service was awful on thanksgiving night. The food was good though. Le Bistro was very good. We walked through the buffet but didn't eat, it was typical of buffets and not interesting nor exciting to us, just full of rude people.

Will try Epic again but not during a holiday week.

All in all. We enjoyed the week and the ship but only because we were in a spa suite. We knew we would not have enjoyed the incredible crowds in the general population. Less

Cabin review: Norwegian Epic 14151

Too much noise above head late at night Spacious balcony but only one lounge chair and two upright chairs. Bamboo tables too unstable for a wine glass. Cabinets above head we felt wasted space. Closets broken up into three sections and not convenient. Very cramped for dining in room. Missed a couch and dining table. Fabulous coffee maker, Lavanzza, but poor choices of expresso, so a waste of space. Offered teas and expresso dolce (sweet expresso).
