Christmas Cruise on the Bahama Celebration

Sail Date: December 2012
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Other

We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this short, budget priced cruise. While the ship was a little worn in spots, there could be no complaint about the cruise staff, food, public rooms, shows, etc. Our stateroom was much larger than we have had on grander cruise lines. The cruise staff were competent, knowledgeable, cooperative and very friendly. We dined in the Crystal Dining Room both nights, and the food selection was interesting, well prepared, HOT, and beautifully presented.

One can always expect lots of children and college kids during holiday vacations. But there was no loudness and no one got out of hand. The ship had special activities for kids and young teens.
Freeport is not a beautiful port. It is very industrial/commercial, with no beaches. We took a one day excursion to Lucaya Resort, spent two hours on the beautiful white sand beach, enjoyed lunch there, then spent another two hours shopping. Very nice day.

I had a problem More with their website. It was very difficult to book things on line. I accidentally double booked our excursion. The clerk at the excursion desk called it to our attention and assured us it would be taken care of When we got home, I checked my credit card and the ship statement and they certainly did clear up the error without any effort on my part. Cabin review:

This outside cabin with full view was much larger than ones we've had on pricier cruises. The bathroom was huge by ship standards. Cabin steward was friendly and fulfilled all our requests.

Port and Shore Excursions

We traveled from the port to Lucaya on an air conditioned bus. We were dropped off at the resort and given clear instructions on how to get back to the ship. We spent two hours on the beautiful beach, had lunch at the Resort, then shopped for another two hours. This was plenty of time. We were getting tired and wanted to get back. Buses ran every 45 minutes, so there was no long wait. The lunch at Lucaya was very ordinary and nondescript. Nothing was Bahaman or Caribbean dishes. Baked macaroni, fried chicken, salad, etc. The tables in the dining room were dirty. The staff made no effort to keep things clean.
