Best ship so far!
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
This cruise was a gift, a 4 night trip w/just 1 stop in Cozumel. Rather than drive 4.5 hours to the cruiseport for such a short cruise, we did a land tour to Cancun before this cruise. Decided we definitely prefer cruising...just so much more to do.
Stayed at the Homewood Suites, Griffin Road, Ft. Lauderdale the night before our cruise....Loved the hotel..Good breakfast, free dinner and happy hour, big rooms, 2 tv's, good rate. Shuttle to port was $8 each, but still well worth it. Took a cab back to hotel after cruise ($21.00) rather than having to wait for return shuttle. (Hotel's shuttle was $10 each for return trip!)
Got to ship at approximately 10:30am, sat down More comfortably and were able to board at noon. Amazed at the ship's size and beauty inside and out.
Headed to Sorrento's in Promenade rather than Windjammer Buffet - great move....Took pics while the Promenade was pretty empty and no line for good food. Enjoyed a glass of wine while people watching in Promenade.
Cabins were ready afterward and muster was painless since we didn't need to bring our lifejackets.
Friendliness prevailed in every single Department! Loved the bartenders at the Champagne bar and the free appetizers w/caviar were great!
We had never done an inside cabin before and although it was a decent size with more than adequate storage, we would never do this again. We enjoy sitting on the balcony frequently during our cruises so we really missed this. Our steward was great, got us robes and kept ice in room constantly. Didn't see him much, but never wanted for anything!
Never had a problem waiting for elevators which was nice.
We are foodies and thought the food had good variety and tasted better than other ships, especially Chops which was superb!
Tried My Time Dining and although I like the concept, I didn't like the fact that two people or small groups were seated away from the "action" in the main dining room. Felt like we were sent to a corner to eat. I asked for another table the second night while being seated, but the choices weren't good for 2 of us so we made the best of it. Had to lean over the balcony to see the waiter show, etc.
Got off the ship and just did some shopping and partying at 1/2 Senior Frogs with neighbors who were on the Jewel and arrived in Cozumel the same day.
Since we just returned from Cancun, I was OK with skipping snorkeling and the beach.
The pools were a bit chilly, but not unbearable (we live in Florida). Weather was nice, but needed a sweater at night due to wind.
The Ice Show was absolutely spectacular, the Air show was very good; we didn't care for Saturday Night Live....Very loud and just lagged. In fact I've never seen so many people walk out while the show was still in progress.
Loved the big screen tv - watching football games outside, drink in hand, was fabulous!
I had done two Seminars for travel agents and although I work in Operations, I thoroughly enjoyed these. Learned alot about Royal Caribbean and was very impressed. So much so that we have decided to stick with this cruiseline whenever we can.
Children were occupied with their own play pool. Solarium pool for adults was great although seats were scarce. No problem getting lounges in other areas though.
Instead of dashing off the ship as usual, we had breakfast and carried our bags off at around 9am. Went directly to Deck 1 so we didn't have to drag our bags down 2 flights of stairs which we had been warned about. Took about 45 minutes to go through customs, get off ship, but the line moved...Not bad at all!
Thanks Royal Caribbean for a sensational short cruise! Less
