The Breeze - Excellent and Not So Excellent

Sail Date: December 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

We returned to CCL, after cruising with two other cruise lines over the past 2 years, to check out the new Breeze. We are VIP with CCL and the military rate we were able to acquire made the choice easy. We specifically wanted a cove balcony, which was the only thing we enjoyed on The Dream in 2010.

Te new decor on The Breeze is wonderful. Blues, golds, cream color is very pleasing to the eye and not having an orange couch in the room was a definite plus. I think the gentle and relaxed appearance of the whole ship gives a welcome feeling to all those aboard.

The layout of the Lido area and multiple buffet areas is helpful and there seems to be more seating area which is helpful during busy breakfast and noon time eating. We usually used the restaurant but that is not always possible. We tried the comedy brunch time but found the loud, not funny "comedy" interruptions to be irritating. The Blush dinning room, where we had assigned dinner time, was very pleasant and our More waiter, Sasha, was excellent. The food was very good, outside of the steaks which were poor, and the food always arrived warm, but never really hot.

The Water Works and Sports Square is nicely set up and is great for children and adults. The Serenity Area is a pleasant get away area and we actually never had too much trouble finding seating. The children on this cruise pretty much took up both pools and some of the hot tubes too, but we also found most all of the children and teens onboard to be well behaved!

The production shows on this ship are pathetic compared to all our previous 12 cruises with CCL. The are no lavish sets, or costumes. There are instead, seven "singers" and dancers who sing over recorded music and the back drop simply shows digital pictures and images. At several times during The Brits show, there are NO human beings even on the stage but you're suppose to be entertained by digital characters on the back screen who are "singing." This ship makes a real statement about CCL's decision to basically drop live music from their ships. One bight note on The Breeze is the husband and wife team from Argentina that sing in the Atrium- they are fabulous! It is also interesting how on two evenings, the "shows" were simply the CD playing games!! We'll return to Celebrity, Princess, and HAL for real production shows but will still cruise with CCL sometime again.

So if you are booked on The Breeze or are considering it, by all means, you will probably enjoy this ship. The ship really is beautiful, the service was very good, the food was fair to very good, ports of call, we just walked around since we've been to all four ports several times previously. Also should say that Butch, the CD was good, because he spent little time on the PA telling us things we could easily read about in The FunTimes. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Breeze 2376

Cove balcony 2376 was very nice, lots of closet and storage space, bathroom adequate, nice decor. Not sure why, at exactly 0400 hrs every morning, staff had to drop things and drag them around on deck 3 above us though!
