RCCL has a lot of work to do
This was our 11th cruise, and our second on RCCL. From here on out I think we will stick with Princess or Celebrity. Although we received a really good last minute deal on this trip I would have rather paid more and received what I paid for.
Embarkation: I love sailing out of San Juan. In the past the whole process with Princess has been as smooth and expedited as possible. RCCL on the other hand included the long wait, little to no organization from staff. In Fact there was nobody there to guide us where to go or what to do next. It wasn't a big deal for us, but the couple that was with us would have been lost without our support and guidance.
The ship is due for dry dock in April and may get a face lift. It needs it! There are several locations where the seams in the carpet are coming apart. Paint is looking old and rusty in places.
Our baggage made it to our rooms no problem, however the couple traveling with us had one bag held back. When we More were getting ready for our first dinner, we pick up the other couple still wearing shorts. They said one of their bags had not arrived. When they called the desk they were told it was being held for inspection on deck 2. Nobody bothered to tell them this before hand, it was up to them to find out where there bag was. After dinner in shorts they went hunting their bag. The were besides themselves as to why their bag was held. We didn't smuggle on liquor, or irons, etc. When they found the bag they were forced to open it. The person conducting the inspection had no idea what the bag was held for, she just did some random inquiry. She asked what the long skinny object was with a cord! Hello, it was a curling iron. She said that was fine and off we went with the bag.
Dinners: The food was good, if not great. However the service was miserably slow. The first night we barely finished out main course before we were advised that the dinning room was closing because of the safety drill. No desert would be served. That made the first dinner over 2 hours just to get through the main course. Dinner was just as slow on the other nights. We sat long periods of time eating bread and drinking water because there was nothing being served. The tables around us were having the same problem. Several parties never returned to the dinning room after the first night hassles.
The shows were boring and seemed to be of a lesser quality than what we have experienced in the past. The comedians were pretty good. Sadly, after the 9:00 pm show there is nothing, and I mean nothing going on on this ship.
I think this size of ship is to my liking, rather than the big mega ships. Once this has a face lift it will be presentable. I don't know what they are going to do about the service. It seems that ever since the invention of prepaid gratuities service on all lines has degraded a bit. Even more so on RCCL. Less

Cabin review: Brilliance of the Seas Superior Oceanview Stateroom Deck 7 8642
The cabin 8642 was just fine. The balcony has a large roof structure under it that prevents a direct line of site to the water. Everything was fine other than that.
