This was our 29th cruise and 4th Transatlantic so we knew what to expect. However, we got much more than expected.
Embarkation in Rome took a total of 10 minutes, and was the smoothest we have ever experienced. Our cabin was a Concierge class balcony and was 192 sq feet plus balcony which was fine. A little more closet and storage space would have been nice. The cabin was nicely laid out and had a 32" flat screen TV mounted on the wall. The ship is absolutely beautiful. Despite it's size, we never felt crowded and we never had any problems finding seating around the pool areas.
Service was excellent. The friendliness of the crew was genuine. They could not do enough to try to please the passengers.
We were on the anytime dining plan. The food in the dining room was outstanding.
The menu choices were wonderful. As an appetizer, Escargot was available every night, as was French Onion Soup. On other cruises, these items were only available for one night. We usually try specialty restaurants, but the food in the dining room was so good, we found no need to look elsewhere.
The entertainment was very good. Since we were at sea for seven days, the cruise director decided to put on a show every afternoon. This was in addition to the usual evening shows. He brought back the talent from the previous night to perform a totally different act for the afternoon show. There were also some very interesting lectures to attend. There was music and activities on going on everywhere on the ship.
Our captain, Dimitreaus, was approachable and friendly. His sense of humor was wonderful. Whenever he spoke, we knew that he was going to be funny. He held a pool volleyball game with the crew playing against the passengers. The crew, including the Captain were in the pool IN FULL UNIFORM. It was a hysterical sight.
The tours offered were very good, something for everyone. We stopped in Genoa Italy and Toulon France. Not much to see there.
Disembarkation was was well organized and ran smoothly.
I have previously sailed on NCL. Royal Caribbean and Princess, and I can honestly say that this was, by far, the best.
