Tansatlantic cruise was everything a cruise should be-relaxing, only 3500 passengers aboard & plenty of room to move about. Mixed nationalities. In Miami we took on board 4500 passengers, mostly Americans. The back to back experience was smooth & simple, we went off for the day on a trip & when we returned to the ship, our bags had all been moved for us, for the change of cabin. We noticed the difference in numbers of passengers on the 2nd day, the decks were very crowded with very little space to move. Smoking seemed to be allowed all over the ship-we had not noticed this on our Transatlantic section. Parts of the inside of the ship were very unpleasant to walk through due to the smoke, even the very small library was taken over by the passengers using the Bar & smoking was permitted here. The dining rooms were all full & we ended up in the Garden Cafe rather than waiting for 40 mins. The Garden Cafe was also very full with many families & the staff were working very hard to clear up for the next occupents of the tables. Many children were running around eating "on the hoof " & handling food & not using the tongs provided. Pools & hot-tubs were surrounded by bottles & glasses , there appeared to be no supervision by deck staff. Our last week aboard was not a very relaxing experience. I wrote to NCL but their response was very bland & almost accepting this standard of behavoir as normal for this type of cruise. We did notice that for in cabin eating , the used dishes remained outside of the cabin for most of the day. We found the staff most helpful but somewhat overwhelmed when the ship was full. Both Embarkation & Disembarkation were well organised, but again inside the ship one had to wait to pass through very smokey areas. We would have no hesitation in doing the Transatlantic again, but would not consider the 1 week cheepie ( for US citizens ) ever again. I think in catering for the masses on ther big ships, NCL are lowering their standards

Cabin review: Balcony

The washing/ toilet area was somewhat strange, with 1 on 1 side & the other opposite with the entrance area in between. Balcony good but we had to daily clean up the cigarette ends & 1 day a cigar but.
