Ruby Princess Cruise Review by Bellalola: Our first Princess Cruise. Not disappointed.

Our first Princess Cruise. Not disappointed.
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
This was only our second cruise. Our first was with Celebrity so we did compare the two quite a bit.
First off, the service on all levels was fantastic! Our cabin steward, Voltan, was great. He was always very friendly and our room was always neatened up when we returned from breakfast or the fitness center in the morning and then again in the evening.
We also enjoyed Crooners bar and Miguel was fantastic! Very personable and funny. And he made good drinks!
Any other staff we ran into were always very nice and helpful.
We were very happy w/ the entertainment. We went to see "Once Upon a Dream" (which was kind of like "The Nutcracker" on LSD!) in the Princess Theater - it was very well done. We also saw David Cats, an illusionist, both in the Princess Theater and in the Explorers lounge. He was great! Very fun to watch and a good showman. There was always plenty to do and we tried to take advantage of as much as we could.
The food was More OK, not great. We did eat at the Crown Grill (the steakhouse) our last night and it was fantastic - great piece of steak that was very well prepared.
I have noticed in other reviews that people felt that staff was pushy with Princess merchandise. We never ever ran into this issue. I don't know if they have changed their policy on that, or whether we just lucked out.
Princess Cays was very nice. We went down the beach quite a bit and enjoyed just sitting in the sun. Water was a bit chilly for us to swim in.
Enjoyed Orient Beach on St. Marteen - we took a van with other people, on our own (v. going on an excursion) and it worked out well. If you do it this way, my suggestion would be to hike a bit down the beach (we were on the topless side) where it gets a bit less crowded. Liked being able to walk around town and then walk back to the boat.
We loved St. Thomas (took the Eco Hike excursion on St. John - what a beautiful island!).
The only port that wasn't so exciting was Grand Turk. We opted not to take an excursion, so just walked about the port area, which was very nice, but we are not big shoppers so not very interesting for us.
We also took advantage of the fitness center. I took the spinning classes which were very challenging and interesting! The staff there was very energetic!!
In comparison to Celebrity, the entertainment was much better on Princess. I felt there were more options. The average age was also younger on Princess (we are in our 40's). The food was better on Celebrity (which isn't to say it was bad on Princess). Service was impeccable on both ships.
Overall, we had a great time. I mean, what's not to like? A vacation in the Eastern Caribbean with your sweetheart! Less

Cabin review: BBC223 Balcony
We were on the Caribe deck, cabin C223. The balcony was HUGE! 4 chairs and a small table easily fit. Didn't see the need for the extra chair inside the cabin - we kept moving it around to get it out of our way. Pretty quiet location (we were towards the front of the ship). Great view (no obstructions). Would like to have had a drawer or two in the bathroom.Read All Balcony (BB) Reviews >>
