NCL has the perfect 7 day itinerary for Hawaii and they waste it with running a poor ship. This is coming from a person who cruises based upon timing and destination. WepPrefer destination type cruising and using the ship as a "floating hotel". Small business owners who enjoys travel and meeting new people. Usually able to go with the flow, but understands customer service and sometimes that smile helps. given that, I would characterize this ship as the older Holiday Inn type hotel with shiny spots throughout. Not a current day low budget hotel in Honolulu but rather it's dated and dirty only in places. Our balcony was full of dirt and hair enough to keep one's shoes on at all times. we had 3 in a room which is very tight. fold out bed is very hard and when I asked for "egg shell" or foam topper, they had none but could give another blanket. Go figure, with a mostly American staff, it wasn't a language barrier.
First evening (Saturday) we dined at J's steak place and food was good. not great so figure that in when deciding to pay the extra charge.
Tuesday we tried the Italian rest. and it was a disaster. 7 pm reservation got us seated around 7:15 with about an 45 min. wait for food. Manager came around buying people drinks and doing a good job trying to control the kitchen issues but folks started leaving very unsatisfied (wrong dish, poor cooking, pasta very dry). the manager did such a good job that we decided to give it another try and rescheduled for Thursday night (which is the big Luau night). Only 4-5 tables at the rest. and it was very good food. Plates hot and flavorful. high marks for Chris as manager.
The last night we tried the Jefferson Bistro and food was good. Very slow service (not leisurely but rather like the staff was confused).
Some suggested that the chef and kitchen had turned over the week before but most service and timing was a cluster. Plan to eat early before 7 pm or later after 8:30 pm.
Lounges have some very friendly bartenders and some nasty. Napa wine bar had an attitude that left us leaving without any service. Pink Champagnes was very friendly but new trainee's had quite a few mistakes. Staff tends to talk among themselves and ignore customers in many locations. Very different service than our last NCL voyage to the Baltic last spring.
