No more Celebrity Cruises!!

Sail Date: November 2012
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

As Elite members of Celebrity Cruise Lines, having been on 8+ of their ships, we decided after our cruise on the Eclipse (Nov 9, 2012) that this would be our last one. Celebrity has gone downhill over the past several years with our first disappointment being on the Equinox (April 2011), the sister ship to the Eclipse.

The food at the buffet for breakfast and lunch was always the same and never hot. Our first seating dining was close to deplorable with each night's dinner selection getting worse from the previous ones. What has happened to the reputation Celebrity had for years for their 5 star dining??? It is now barely a 2 star!!

The entertainment was much more varied and enjoyable on the Eclipse than the Equinox and is one of the few pluses on this cruise. Cabins were clean and comfortable but we think the public rooms are bland and boring for such new ships. We agree with other reviews of the Eclipse that the debarkation was painful.

The long More lines to get off the ship and thru customs/luggage retrieval were awful and we must have had to walk over a mile from the ship thru all of this. With many elderly passengers on this ship who were using walkers and wheelchairs, we can't imagine how they survived thru this process! Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Eclipse Deluxe Ocean View W/Veranda Continental Deck (6) 9207

Cabin 9207 was comfortable with a nice private balcony. It was clean and promptly serviced. If anything could be improved, it would be more drawer space. The closet was big enough. It was fairly close to elevators and we didn't have any problems with noise.

Port and Shore Excursions

Arrival in San Juan at 3 pm doesn't make sense, it should be earlier in the day so passengers can enjoy more time there if they want.

We opted to take a taxi to the Marriott St. Kitts to use their facilities. We didn't know if would cost $35/person which included towel, chair, umbrella, but glad we saw the property. St. Kitts has a nice little shopping area by the ship and we would like to return there for a longer stay.

Having been to St. Maarten many times, we opted to go to Divi Little Bay Resort and use the beach and pool there. Very nice setting at the end of Front St. and easy to get to by taxi ($8-10 each way).

We love St. Thomas and not only like to cruise there but also like to stay for extended times. There is so much to do between there and St. John, you could never get bored. Charlotte Amalie can get very crowded, especially when there are several large ships in port which can be overwhelming.
