Overall Wonderful Cruise

Sail Date: November 2012
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Four days ago we reluctantly left the beautiful Caribbean Princess after a great 7 day cruise to the Southern Caribbean. This was cruise #8 but the first out of Ft. Lauderdale and the first on Princess. We will be back for sure.

Our interior cabin was well laid out and roomy. We had more drawers and shelves than we could use. Loved the big closet and all the mirrors.

The ship was designed with numerous smaller places to go and lots of bars and lounges so we never felt crowded. Shops were on 3 decks so it kept people moving. The library was a major disappointment. It was four chairs on the side of the internet cafe. There were lots of places to sun tan and several pools to choose from. The chair hogs were there en mass but Princess says you can move towels and personal items if no one has been there in 30 minutes.

Finding a table in the buffet restaurant in the mornings and at lunch was sometimes a challenge. The buffet areas were tight and usually crowded More with people walking in every direction at once. It took some patience, especially with people who changed direction quickly without looking. I was disappointed with the selection of salads and overall variety at lunch. The food was good, but not as good as we've had on Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Breakfast was fine and I was impressed with the variety offered.. They gave out numbers when ordering an omlet which eliminated lines but kept people just hanging around waiting in the small space others were trying to maneuver in.

We chose Anytime Dining and loved it. We sat with different people every night and it was one of the highlights of the trip. The food was good but the variety was poor. On the second night we were sure we'd received the wrong menu since it was so similar to the night before. We were glad the waiters did not do a cheesy nightly song & dance. (Now if they would also stop singing Happy Birthday loudly and off key I would be happy.) The asst. waiters did a walk-though with fake lighted baked alaska on the last night and looked bored and uncomfortable.

Shows in the theater were ok. The two male singers were mediocre. The dancers were great though. We liked having a third show at 10:15.

Music all over the ship was outstanding! We are dancers and were delighted to find plenty of ballroom music being played.

Debarkation was a breeze. People were nice. Overall a wonderful cruise Less

Cabin review: Caribbean Princess L244

L244 was perfect! Quiet, conveniently located, clean and well laid out.

Port and Shore Excursions

Snorkeling

We chose the Mi Dushi Sailing/Snorkeling excursion. Lunch was great. The people on the ship were friendly. The water was warm and the snorkeling locations were good. The rope swing was fun! There was no shade on the boat, however, and limited seating. Bring a big hat and lots of sunshade lotion!

Island Tour

The ship was very late getting into port (2:30 p.m. instead of 1 p.m.)so our trolley tour booked through the ship was cancelled. When we got off the ship, a man at the information desk recommended a private excursion and told us it would go to the same places as the trolley tour. It didn't. However it did go to several places the trolley wouldn't have gone so I was happy anyway.

We were on the first tender over. There is quite a bit of walking plus a set of stairs up and down to get to the clamshell area so I would advise seniors or those with mobility issues to choose another option. We chose a clamshell near one of the bars and food service areas because it had music playing. Little did we know it would play the same 3 or 4 Bob Marley songs over and over all day. I had a soda card but the bartenders said it wasn't good off the ship. You definitely need water shoes! There are rocks everywhere which makes getting into the water a challenge. We were the first ship in after the hurricane so perhaps they have cleaned up some of those rocks by now. We came back around 2 p.m. which was a good idea. Those that waited until later stood in LONG lines for a tender.
