We learned the ship had just come out of dry dock and wasn't ready with many new crew. But even that doesn't explain the awful lack of service and attention to detail we were used to receiving on other cruises and other cruise lines. From reputation expected more from Holland America but received way less.
Would not recommend this ship for anyone!!!
Had to wait in line for attendant to pour your water for all meals on Lido deck. Only water and tea available at that.
No buffet style- had long waits for food to be cooked and/or plated. No trays- they just handed you a very hot plate

Had to wait half an hour for burger at grill
Room service- worse. Order cheeseburger and got hamburger. Called to complain and they sent another order but again it was only hamburger with burnt bun! Tuna melt with Swiss cheese was cold tuna sandwich with slice of cold American cheese. It was almost laughable if not so frustrating
Had to ask for condiments- often not available
But this all was small compared to wait times and service in the anytime dining room. It was bedlam there- it didn't make any difference if you had reservation. Waits at least half an hour to 45 minutes. Empty tables no management or control. And then when did get seated the waiters were not professional and knowledgeable like had experienced on other cruises
Cabin and service fine
The ports were great-in Guatemala-boat tour by Gus the best tour ever!
But the miserable service so bad it was far from a trip to remember. The cruisers all spent most of our conversations complaining. This was first cruise on Holland America and will be last don't want to take the chance again for the money
