Southern November 11, 2012

Sail Date: November 2012
Destination: Southern Caribbean
Embarkation: San Juan

We traveled from Nashville and arrived in San Juan on Sat.,like a previous review we had rooms at the Casa Blanca in OSJ, 1 week before leaving got an e-mail telling us they overbooked. We searched for another hotel, booked Embassy Suites in Dorado, good hotel, expensive, charged a resort fee, but good happy hour and breakfast included. Arrived at the port at 11:30 and able to board then. Brought 2 bottles of wine at CVS. Our room was not ready until 1:30. We were on deck 8 aft right below the lido deck. Great location. Walked around OSJ for the rest of the afternoon and picked up two more bottles of wine. No problem with bringing them back on. Room steward Waylan from Bali was great, ice, towel animals and kept it spotless. Shower stall needs to be redone but didn't bother our trip. The ship was much better than we expected reading some reviews. Only major complaint was one of aft hot tubs worked only on one day.
We do late sitting, thinking that it provides better More service having the same waiters and gave us a chance to relax before dinner. and was very true on this cruise. Dinner in Atlantic dining room was very good our lead waiter John and his two assistants were great, meals were hot and delievered in a timely manner.
Good choice of entrees. We ate breakfast on the aft lido deck by Sirens bar, The omlett station there seldom had people and plenty of places to sit while the inside was crowded.
Did the 10 or 11 pm comedy shows, just ok. The juggler was as funny as the comedians in the late shows. Dancers and singers were good, the show on Thursday night the dancers didn't stop for 45 minutes. Disembarkton went smoothly got off at 9:00 caught a cab to the airport, we use porters makes for a quicker exit and we didn't have to lug suitcases. The cab costs us $28 for two couples. Less

Cabin review: Carnival Victory Balcony Verandah 8363

Cabin 8363, plenty of room with lots of storage. Show needs re tiling in both of the rooms we had (8365). Other than that the room was good and comfortable. Location was very good, up one stairs and we were on lido deck aft. Dining, pool and bar. Heard no excessive noise from the ship.

Port and Shore Excursions

Here we did the beach, the cab people pushed Harbor Lights rather than the Boathouse, No fee to enter, $20 for 2 chairs and an umbrella, did the glass bottom boat off of the beach, started at $30 pp got it for $20, the hour on the water was just ok but the other couple used the snorkeling equipment and enjoyed it more than us. Not too many people hustling on the beach and the beach was nice.

Island tour

Did the island tour with Rosevelt, he was very good really took the time to explain the islands sites and really knew the islands plants, so if you are interested in the plants of the island he is the one. The most interesting sight was Brimstone Hill Fortress, it was not as big as the forts in San Juan but it was the largest of the English Forts I have been to. Clean and lots of signs and notes of the history of the fort.

Used Cosol Tours here, the five hour tour was about 6.5 hours, didn't get back to the ship until 4 and we were a little worried but arrived before the 4:30 leaving. The tour covered the island's attractions and Bumpy was a good guide. The best part was the boat ride to the beach and the plentiful supply of drinks at every stop.

We thought we liked St. Kitts the best and the tour was very good, but St. Marten was the best of the islands we have visited in the Caribbean. Our guide David Taylor who turned out was a cousin of the Rosevelt from yesterday. There was only our group of four on the tour another couple cancelled made our day. It was a private tour for only $40 pp. 3.5 hrs turned into 5. Visited lots of locations he was always there when we wanted him. Allowed us to visit things we wanted couldn't have been better. Water and Beer included

We have been to St. Thomas 3 other times did the Black Beards Castle, enjoyed reading and learning about the pirates who traveled the Caribbean. Did the 99 steps back to town and then just some shopping and ate lunch in one of the cafes
