My Fascinating Halloween Cruise

Sail Date: October 2012
Destination: Bahamas
Embarkation: Jacksonville

Hey, Ya'll; This is a short version of our Halloween cruise on the Fascination. This was our 5th time on this ship! We keep coming back because we Love It! Embark was great as usual, Jax. is very easy to maneuver, the only issue was that they confiscated my wife's small pair of needle nose pliers that she uses for jewelry repair! (I guess they thought she was going to dismantle the ship). They delayed us a little, while they pulled a surprise security check on the crew. We didn't board until 11:30, but we were rewarded as our luggage was at our cabins when we got there at 1:30.This was our first interior cabin as I had booked last min. with a guaranteed status. It turned out well as we ended up Main Deck Midship. We did not have the "basket Of Goodies" waiting for us but it did show up that night. We met our steward, Jonathon, and he was great! Very friendly and efficient! After the muster drill they had to get a tug boat to turn us around as the wind was really blowing hard! We were More off! The first day was ROUGH! Some of my cruise buddies ended up meeting Ralph! My only problem was that I couldn't stay put in bed! Kept rolling! First night in the MDR our server was Napa. She was a Sweet Heart! I had the "Garden Vermin", snails, and I also had the lasagna as an app. and a Gourmet Burger! It Was Great! I finished it up with Choc. Melting Cake with Orange Sherbet. Went to SuperStar Live Karaoke. Fun! We missed the Welcome aboard show as most of our group was "Ridin' In A Buick!" We've seen it several times. One thing about our steward, Jonathon, is that he always made good animals! The first night we found a rabbit wearing my sunglasses! He never made the "Easy" animals like seals and such. He also left them "corralled" for the whole trip. It was Great! The next day the weather improved. They cancelled HMC as there was damage from Sandy and later said that we would be going to Freeport instead. I didn't think we would make HMC so I didn't bring my snorkel gear. (Pessimist) It was a "Fun Day At Sea" and since all my folks had gotten Ralph out of the Buick, we did all the usual games and such. We had Sunday School on deck, then I went to the wine tasting which was a lot of fun. I had a Meet & Greet with some CC Folks and then registered for the Showcase of the Stars talent show. It was a busy day! That night was Cruise Elegant Night. We were Any Time Dining so we had to wait about 30 min. for a table. They gave us a pager and we waited in the library. Later we found some goodies and a note from Alena, the hostess, apologizing for the wait. Very Classy! This night is a real Problem! Since Carnival has moved the BBQ ribs to this night, I have to have the Prime Rib and the BBQ ribs, all while trying to keep sauce off my suit! I persevered and it Was Good! Spent some time in karaoke and Hey Mambo. Very Good! The next day was Freeport. Freeport is a good stop ONLY if you have something planned. I don't like just wandering around town. We stayed near the port which is much improved over the way it used to be! There are a lot more shops and things to do. That night was the talent show. It was a lot of fun and our CD Paul, was a HOOT! Very Funny! The next day was Nassau. We had booked a tour with a local that we had used before. It was Not Good! Nuff Said! An added note, Atlantis will not let you see anything without buying a pass! We used to see the aquariums by the lobby but no more. That night our waiter, (we never had the same one as some of our party always wanted to eat at the "Busy" time), was Samson. If you ever get the chance, get this guy! He is a Certified Nut! A lot of fun! That night I had the best dish of the cruise! The Bacon Mac and Cheese. I Never Thought this would be my Favorite, but it was! More karaoke and the show "Far From Over' which is probably the best show Carnival has, all was good. The next night in the MDR, I got the only meal of the cruise that I didn't particularly care for. The Meat Loaf. Now I'm not a food snob but, that sure ain't the way Momma used to make it. The next night was Halloween! There must have been over two hundred people dressed up! Everybody paraded up and down the Promenade and the staff would hand out invitations to appear on stage. I was in a Haz-Mat Suit with a sign that said "Can't Touch This" and "Help Wipe Out CHOGS" I had a Ball! I was in the final 20 but lost out to The Mayhem Man. He deserved it as it was pretty ingenious! Over all the cruise was Wonderful ! Some things I forgot, the pizza has changed. The regular types were not as good, to me, but the Goat Cheese Pizza is much better than last year! Also there was no live music on the Lido the first day but several times there was a duo playing "Cruise" music. Also the show band was always playing somewhere, like the SuperStar karaoke or on the Promenade. There was also the piano man and the one man band in the Atrium. The ship was very clean and the service was Outstanding throughout the ship! The only issues we had that was probably controllable was the Smoke! We like to sit by Bogart's, the coffee shop, but on sea days you couldn't stand it. The smoke from the Casino and the Stars Bar, just hung around the area. Carnival needs to install some high powered ventilation systems to keep from killin' us! Debark was very smooth. I don't think we stopped walking from the luggage area to the car! I'm sure I'll be Fascinated again next year! Be Blessed! Mikey<>< Less
