Did a short 3 night cruise (14-17 Oct) from Vienna, Melk, Durenstein, Bratislava and ending in Budapest. The Tapestry ship is the oldest in the Avalon fleet (6 years old), and could not fault it in anyway. Can only imagine that the newer ships must be awesome!
The staterooms are very comfortable with large sliding window to watch the passing scenery. Spacious bathroom area for a ship and lovely L'Occitane toiletries supplied, and free bottled water. Ship is kept in an immaculate condition, and staff is constantly around cleaning in an unobtrusive manner.
Meals onboard were outstanding, of a very high standard and definitely 5 star! Large selection at all meals, and local specialties added to menu choice. Free unlimited wine supplied with dinner. 24/7 beverage station onboard for free tea/coffee/cappuccino/hot chocolate and juice.
Robert our Cruise Director has a wonderful sense of humour, and was a popular member of the crew with all the passengers. He kept everyone well informed about ship information and special events taking place, attractions along the Danube and sightseeing/excursions which were included, and those which were optional at an additional cost. Passengers are also supplied with information newsletters in their cabins which gave extensive and well presented information on towns we were visiting, including easy to use town maps to get around on your own. A number of shore excursions are included during the cruise package. Found the "headphone" system linked to our tour guide an innovative way of hearing everything during tours... works very well.
Enjoyed the small intimate size of the ship, and that the ship stops along the Danube right where the towns are located; so no need to commute by bus to get to the town, like one has to do with most ocean cruising ships. Lovely scenery to watch on the banks of the Danube from the top sun-deck area or from your stateroom. I would love to do this again, and maybe do another European river area. Fantastic experience & highly recommended.
