Shortened But Still Sweet Dreams
Our Dream cruise was delayed because of Hurricane Sandy. However, after seeing video of the Disney Fantasy, we were grateful Carnival made that decision! So, we used Saturday to explore the Cape Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area and did some early Christmas shopping! The only glitch - the Radisson was overbooked for Saturday night so we had to change hotels. We ended up at the International Palms. It was ok - but don't go to the oceanfront "restaurant" expecting a good meal!
This was the first cruise we were Platinum, and as my husband and I said, it was well worth it for 10 cruises! We still parked at the Radisson and used their shuttle. It was running a bit late, so we didn't get to the ship until about 12 noon. However, we were checked-in, on the ship, and in our stateroom by 12:30! Had a great lunch and explored the ship until sail away, which was delayed. I guess the ships that always sail out on Sunday had "first priority".
Our balcony room was on the 11th floor and More was wonderful! It was high enough we didn't have to contend with the lanai jutting out and blocking views, and was very convenient to many areas of the ship!
We both remarked how we felt the food was much better than on some other recent cruises. We did Your Time Dining and it worked well for us! The only time we had to wait even a few minutes was on the first formal night. The dining service was excellent, our food was brought in a timely manner, and was what we ordered. We ate lunch in the Gathering several times and it was very good! We enjoyed the Comedy Brunch, found the food to be good, and the service was good (slower the second time than the first one but still acceptable).
There were many positives on this cruise - the shows were fantastic (went to two variety shows and two comedians). We really like the Tasting Bar with the drink special each evening. Great casino - very nice staff and Blackjack tables were paying nicely the final day!
We loved the Serenity deck and found there were always plenty of chairs and loungers. We didn't go to the Lido deck pool area to enjoy the sun, but noticed when walking through there appeared to be plenty of chairs - maybe not right beside the pool but in the area.
Really, the only negative we had was my husband's disappointment about the lack of a sports bar. They say they have one, but it really is only a bar with tvs in the casino. They even have musicians playing in there when ballgames are going on! Part of the bar was for smokers, and my husband said that was who was in there most of the time - people in the casino going there for a quick smoke.
We missed Roatan, which we hated, but still enjoyed the other stops. Cozumel we simply got off the ship, took a cab into town, had a little lunch, and went back to the ship. Belize we shopped around the port. Costa Maya we went on the Mini Rhino tour and it was OUTSTANDING! A lot of fun, some beach time with snorkeling, and just a bit of adventure!
Debarkation was a breeze! We got up early, had our coffee in the room, went for a quick breakfast in the dining room, got our "stuff" from the room and headed for a spot to wait to be called. By the time we got to level 3 to go to the theater they called our zone! We were off the ship and heading back north on I95 by 8:30!
Out of the 10 cruises we have gone on, I would definitely put this one in the top 2 or 3! It really was very fun, trouble-free, and even though it was only 6 days, we felt like we had 7 days worth of fun! Less
