First Time Oasis Cruiser
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
Pre-Cruise - We flew out of PIT via Airtran. Non-stop flight in Business Class. Flight was on time and uneventful. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six the night prior to our cruise. It is a $15 taxi ride from FLL to the hotel. I got the hotel on Priceline. The night of our stay, there was an event at the hotel and the hotel was sold out. We were given room 2331 which is a second floor, marina view room right by the elevator. We thought the hotel was good enough for a one night stay, but if we needed to stay any longer we would prefer to stay closer to the beach. Taxi fare from hotel to port was approx $15 with tip.
The Oasis - First impression....WOW. It took 15 minutes from getting out of the taxi to stepping onto the Promenade. This ship is big, has lots of people, but not crowded at all. We have cruised on the Navigator so we were familiar with the Promenade. Once on board we went to Park Cafe for a Roast Beef sandwich. It seems like this location is no More longer a secret and finding a place to sit was difficult. Very impressed with both Central Park and the Boardwalk.
Service - We had the best service of any cruise we have taken. From the staff in the terminal, to the wait staff, room attendants and Customer Service personnel everyone seemed to go out of their way to ensure we were having a great cruise.
Entertainment - The shows were amazing. We saw Hairspray and Come Fly With Me twice each. I watched the Oasis of Dreams once from the public balcony on deck 11 and once from the ampitheater.
Cabin - We stayed in 12325, a Boardwalk Balcony. While we enjoyed the room and being able to people watch, I missed being able to see the water while laying on my bed. We chose this cabin because it is the only class of ship that you can get this cabin on. Now that we have done it, it is back to Oceanview Balconies.
Dining - We had MTD and ate in the MDR 6 of the 7 nights. The service in the dining room was fantastic. We have done MTD on other cruise lines and they weren't nearly as efficient as this. The waitstaff had tremendous support from the restaurant management team which is necessary to ensure the continued turnover of tables. The food in the MDR was amazing. We found the portions to be smaller than Carnival, but adequate. Not once did we leave hungry, but we also didn't leave to the point where we were stuffed. The other night we ate in Chops. I had to 18oz Porterhouse and my wife had the 10oz Filet. Both steaks were done perfectly. The only downside to the dining experience was Windjammer. The food was average but I don't expect gormet food from a buffet.
Disembarkation was smooth with coffee, juice and pastries available in the dining room while waiting for you tag number to be called. Less
