We just returned from a Princess CruiseTour to Alaska. It was our first cruise ever and we were very impressed with Princess Cruise Lines. Their logistics were mostly flawless and amazing - how they could get everyone transported from one location to another without a hiccup was mind boggling. Our luggage always showed up ahead of us and only once were we late in arriving to a destination.

We were the first land tour party of the season and if I have a complaint at all it was that the restaurants in the lodges just weren't ready for all the people that descended on them. It was like going into a local restaurant during the first week it's open. Service was slow and inadequate. But the management staff was very diligent and several people were given complementary meals when it was especially bad. But the food was good at all locations.

We started our tour in Fairbanks and spent two days. I would suggest only one day. The Fairbanks lodge was our least favorite and seemed to have the most issues with service, though not enough to ruin our opinion of Princess or to ruin our trip. We enjoyed our night at the Denali Lodge and the history tour into the tundra. Very informative. All the tour guides were great and witty. We didn't have any land excursion that was a disappointment. McKinley Lodge was our favorite and the mountain blessed us with clear views two days in a row. It also had the most "lodge" feel and we were comfortable there from the first minute. One word of warning about the Lodges - the gift shops were also unprepared for the beginning of the season and we found long delays in getting through the lines. We even had to carry some purchases to the next lodge to get them shipped home because we couldn't seem to get it accomplished where we bought them.
