Carnival Glory 10/12/2012
First cool weather cruise, enjoyed it but like the hot weather cruises better.
Embarkation -- New York, unfortunately when we arrived at the port the computers were down so that slowed things up. Compared to the newer ports in Florida and other places New York is quite old. Heard that a rebuild is going to occur soon.
Ports -- Boston was nice. Big historic growing city. Took a cab to Boston Commons and navigated from there. Portland nice in the morning but cool and drizzling in the afternoon. St John cloudy and cool. Interesting place with the Reversing Falls. Halifax best port of them all and Peggy's Cove very nice. Plenty of shopping on the pier as many ships dock there. One of our co-travelers took an excursion in St John and felt that they way over paid for the quality of the excursion.
Food -- very good......kind of glad when cruise was over because we ate so well. Wait staff excellent. Room attendant excellent as well.
Ship -- our shower was slow to drain (reported) and there was terrific rumbling of the ship in the Aft (engine?)
Entertainment -- some are right when they say that a lot of cruisers on this ship go to bed at 10 pm. More sedate and older crowd on this cruise than say your Caribbean ones. Matt the Cruise Director very good and the best show was the Illusionist followed by the comedian Marla Schultz. Casino seemed kind of empty and Blackjack 21 now $6 a hand! Fun Stores on this run did not appear to be as well managed or stocked as others I have seen on Carnival.
Disembarkation -- after leaving Halifax had to turn back because medical emergency so this made the ship 2-3 hours late getting into NYC port. Photo ops terrific as we cruised into NYC on the Hudson. Matt the Cruise Director et al did all they could to get everyone off the ship and to their final destination as fast as they could. Most people it seemed caught their flight where I guess that some missed theirs especially if it were early afternoon.
We will go on Carnival again and again.........
